My heart aches for Birmingham, Alabama

Instead, it turned into a night of bloodshed and terror when multiple shooters opened fire at a major nightlife hub. Four people were killed and at least seventeen more were injured. My heart aches for the victims of this horrific tragedy and for all of the survivors who must now live with the trauma from this violence. Everyone in our nation deserves the freedom to have a night out with friends without worrying that they might get shot. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that the Birmingham community has experienced a mass shooting. Alabama has the fourth-highest gun death rate in the nation, and some of the weakest gun laws in the country. It is absolutely unacceptable that Alabama lawmakers do not do more to curb the state’s gun violence crisis. We must all come together to keep the pressure on Alabama elected officials to do something. Alabamians deserve to live without the fear of gun violence. I will not rest in our work here at GIFFORDS until that future becomes a reality in Alabama, and in every state across our nation. Please, keep standing with me in this fight.
