We all owe President Joe Biden a debt of gratitude for his steady leadership when our country needed it most. In three and a half short years, he ended a pandemic, rescued the economy, fought climate change, and passed the most consequential gun violence prevention bill in decades. And through it all, he maintained his trademark decency, optimism, and empathy. I will be forever grateful to President Biden for his compassion and personal friendship to me as I was recovering. He held my hand and gave me his 'word as a Biden' that he and Jill would always be there for me—and they were. He was by my side when I returned to cast my first vote following the shooting, and I was proud to stand by his side throughout his presidency, where he did more to fight gun violence than any president in history. His accomplishments will save lives for years to come. I am proud of my friend. I have known Kamala Harris for many years, and I can think of no better candidate who is ready to finish the job and end gun violence in our nation. It’s a job she has already started as our vice president. Without Vice President Harris, we could never have gotten the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act passed in 2022. She worked with President Biden to establish the first-ever federal Office of Gun Violence Prevention in 2023, which she now oversees.
