He is a former Republican Congressman from Georgia. During his time in Congress, Barr gave a keynote address at a meeting of the Council of Conservative Citizens, a white supremacist organization known for its opposition to interracial marriage. Barr has tried to backtrack saying that he did not know the views of this group before speaking to them, but the CCC themselves have made it clear Barr was aware of the group’s views before delivering this speech, and that they wouldn’t have invited him to speak otherwise.
