Or could Apple finally be gearing up to announce its [long-rumored VR headset]( or AR glasses? THE RESULTS ARE CHAOTIC.]( Artificial intelligence is finally learning to flirt. While romantic banter continues to elude the likes of Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant, an advanced AI system out of the United States is being trained to seduce, churning out original pickup lines for the express purpose of scoring a date. Janelle Shane, a research scientist and author from Colorado, created a squad of courtship bots using one of the most sophisticated text-writing AI algorithms in the world: a language model known as the Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3), which uses deep learning to produce human-like text. Researchers [claim]( GPT-3âs output is so advanced that it is often difficult to distinguish it from material written by a real, flesh-and-blood humanâwhich, in this case, says some troubling things about the standards weâve come to expect from real, flesh-and-blood humans. Intermediate-mass black holes have been more elusive. Astronomers now believe to have found a new one belonging to this class. And it's all thanks to a cataclysmic explosion: a gamma-ray burst. They also used two very simple techniques to reverse those false memories, in a feat that paves the way for a deeper understanding of how memory works. Aileen Oeberst, head of the Department of Media Psychology at the University of Hagen, recently implanted false memories in 52 people by using suggestive interviewing techniques. First, they had the participantsâ parents privately answer a questionnaire and come up with some real childhood memories and two plausible, but fake, onesâall negative in nature, such as how their pet died or when they lost their toy. Then they had researchers ask the participants to recall these made-up events in a detailed manner, including specifics about what happened. For example, âYour parents told us that when you were 12 years old during a holiday in Italy with your family you got lost. Can you tell me more about it?â The test subjects met their interviewer three times, once every two weeks, and by the third session most participants believed these anecdotes were true, and over half (56%) developed and recollected actual false memoriesâa significantly higher percentage than most studies in this area of research.
