In case you missed it, over the weekend, I asked you to share any memories you have (hazy or not) about your first memory of me and Cheech. And boy, did I open the floodgates of 60s and 70s nostalgia. The answers to that one are still rolling in, and I gotta say, I've been giggling like a schoolgirl reading 'em over the last few days. Shelby thinks they're a hoot too! Man, you all remember some stuff about me and Cheech that even I don’t even remember…which I guess isn’t that surprising if we're being honest. Anyway, here are just a handful of the many notes you sent in: High Uncle Tommy- I’m a 63 year old fan here in East Texas, an interesting fact about me is that for the last 12 years, I have been a Professional Wrestling Referee on the Independent Circuit. It has been a wild ride, I have been all over Northeast Texas and Western Arkansas doing my thing ! My first memory of you and Cheech was when a friend of mine got one of Y’all’s Albums and we listened to it everyday after school-we thought that was some cool shit ! Been a fan ever since-now a big fan of Cruise Chews ! Robert W, Woden, TX Hey Robert... I see what you did there... Nice! And a professional wrestling referee? Man, I love it - Cheech and I could have used you back when we got in the ring with the Invisible Man in 'Still Smokin'. I still crack up [whenever I watch this clip]( - guess how much fun that was to film, man. I remember watching Up in Smoke at the drive in movies. My Dad and my brother and I and we would bring Godfathers sausage pizza to eat while we watched. I just watched Still Smoking while trying my Cheech and chong edibles. Tammy J, WA Up in Smoke at the drive-in with a good pizza? That's a classic night right there, Tammy! Keep enjoying those munchies and memories, man - I'm honored that I still get to be a part of your life. Tommy, man I'm happy to see you're still spreading the magic. My first memory of you happened at the theatre. I was in the process of breaking up with a long term squeeze that was painful beyond belief. It was 1978 as I recall. My tearducts were getting a work out and I needed to just chill. So after imbing more than usual I was cruising along and happened to see "Up In Smoke" on a theatre marqee. I was getting a serious case of the munchees and figured I'd just buy a bunch of goodies and sit in the back and snackup to relieve the heartache. From the opening scene I was laughing....and crying. But this time it was from cries of laughter. Good medicine to add to the other good medicine. When the flick was over I felt better than I had for a long time. Bro, that movie and the others you made got me thru some tough times. Just wanted to let you know and say thanks for being there. - Carl, Pittsburgh Carl, man, hearing that 'Up In Smoke' helped you through a tough breakup, that's something special. It's crazy how laughter so often seems to be the best medicine. We made those flicks hoping to spread a little joy, and knowing it lifted your spirits during rough times, well, that means a lot. Thanks for sharing that with me, man. Hi Tommy. I still have memories of seeing you and Cheech live. The first time was 1974 at the Waikiki Shell in Hawaii. The second and last time was 1976 at the New Orleans Superdome. You two shared the stage with Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Buffett, Jerry Jeff Walker, and the Charley Daniel’s Band. Lewis M, Surprise, AZ Lewis, you're taking me back! Waikiki Shell '74 and then the Superdome with Emmylou Harris, Jimmy Buffett, and the gang in '76? Just hearing those names in the same sentence as Cheech and me feels like someone’s playing a wild game of "One of These Things is Not Like the Others." But hey, we were there, making people laugh alongside those legends. Thanks for being part of those memories. Well Tommy, I have been a fan of you and Cheech since my wife and I first saw Up In Smoke when it was first released. My wife and I had some good smoke so we went to the midnight showing. We have never laughed so hard in our entire 46 years of marriage as we did that night. You two became our best friends that night. We have seen every movie you guys made and all of them we have on VHS or disks. Every year we watch Up In Smoke and still laugh our ass off. You’ve been a blessing to us both. And you were the reason we watch those TV shows your were on. YOU made those shows work. And thanks for the chewies. You’re the best man. And don’t tell Cheech, but you’re the really funny man in your duo. - George C, Georgia George, hearing that 'Up In Smoke' brought such joy to your 46 years of marriage is the kind of stuff that lights up my day. And keeping our movies on rotation through VHS and disks – that's dedication (even I've started to give in and phase out of em'). Now, about me being the funnier one, All I can say is "thanks" man... But between you, me and a few hundred thousand of our closest cousins, I think I gotta give the edge to Cheech on that one. See, I've said this before, and I'm sure I'll say this again (heck, maybe even a couple more times today...) but Cheech is a performer. He's a chameleon. I'm just Tommy Chong. The character I play in the movies is just a heightened version of the real Uncle Tommy. But Cheech has an ability to become whoever he needs to be to play the part... Dig it? If you wanna see this in action, check out our flick "The Corsican Brothers"... We decided to do something brand new and play completely different characters than we'd ever played before... Going back and watching that movie again all these years later, knowing what I know now, I gotta say, Cheech is an AMAZING performer. But hey, that's just like, my opinion, man... (Is it still considered plagiarism if I steal a line from a movie that seems like it was intentionally trying to steal my entire act?) Now, let’s keep the good times rollin’ (see what I did there?)...with your next question. What’s something you’ve always wanted to do, but haven’t yet? Now this could be something scary like skydiving, or traveling somewhere, or asking somebody your own crazy questions, or WHATEVER….just think about something that’s on your bucket list that you want to make sure you get to doing before the doing's done. I’d love to know…so just hit Reply and start typin’! Keep on keepin’ on. Peace and love, [Tommy Signature] Tommy Chong P.S. Don't forget the COUSIN sale is still going strong!
