Now as you know, I've been a parent and a grandparent for quite a while. And let me tell you, between my kids when they were little, and my grandbabies, I've changed enough diapers over the years to possibly stretch around the Earth. Twice. (And man, some of those were... memorable... still trying to block some of that out). Now, why am I diving into my diaper-changing past? Well, a few weeks ago, Dr. Clark sent over something that had me doing a double take. His note said: Tommy, you're not gonna believe this one. Remember all those diapers you used to joke about? Well, turns out they might just be the future of construction. Check out this article: [( Seriously, it’s about sand, diapers, and making the planet a bit greener. Dive in, man! Well cousins, I did dive in. And I gotta be honest, after going down a classic Tommy rabbit hole, I only got even more interested in this topic. See, when it comes to natural resources, people always talk about the usual suspects. Water... oil... natural gas... forests... you name it. But apparently, there's a big one that it seems like nobody is talking about. Sand! Sand is used in EVERYTHING, man! Concrete, mortar, glass, even making semi-conductors for your brand new Macbook! But the problem is, not all sand works for making stuff. Imagine the Sahara – a vast expanse of sand, right? Well, wild as it sounds, we can't use that sand for our buildings and construction. It's not the right shape and size. The sand we need? It's running out. But then, on the other flip of the coin, we’ve got diapers. Mountains of 'em. Over 18 billion getting dumped in landfills every year. These diapers aren’t just causing stinky problems – they’re filling up our planet with waste. Disposable diapers are actually the #3 contributor of waste on the planet! And if there's one thing I remember from my parenting and grandparenting days, it's that those little bundles of joy sure produce a LOT of bundles of... well, you know. But here's the golden nugget. (I promise, no pun intended...) Researchers have figured out a way to process used diapers to replace that precious construction-grade sand in concrete and mortar. I mean, talk about turning a problem into a solution, right? One house could have up to 8% of its sand made from – yep, you guessed it – old diapers. And it's all sturdy and strong! Now, making this a reality? It’s gonna be a journey. We’d need some big minds and bigger hearts coming together. But the potential, man... it could be a blowout success. (Pun definitely intended that time...) So next time you're helping wrangle a diaper, just think – that lil' package might just be part of someone's future home. Want to share a memory about your own diaper days? Hit reply – always love hearing from you.
