Just a blink and a blur! But hey, that's life, right? Moving at a hundred miles an hour, one minute it's winter, the next you're flipping burgers on a hot grill for the 4th. Anyway, even though it was on a Tuesday, Shelby and I had an absolute blast having the family over. But let me tell you, the real fireworks started when I sat down to read through all your replies to my last few emails. Man, the love and good vibes you all share? It's like a big, warm virtual hug for this old heart of mine! (Better than anything my doctor my prescribe... but don't tell him I said that!) Let's start with what turned into a hotly debated topic - Rahma's "no mayo" German Potato Salad! We had cousins with ALL sorts of opinions about this. Cousin Paul was all about it: Best type of potato salad there is - Paul G High five, Paul! But, Cousin Joanne was having NONE of it: Sorry, my mom used to make this and I hate it!! Give me mayo and sour cream, please!! -Joanne P. Well Joanne, to each their own... But I gotta ask... Did you just say Sour Cream? I've never considered myself to be a sheltered man, but here we are. I've never heard of a potato salad recipe that uses sour cream... Tell you what, I'm not the biggest fan of Mayo in the world, but you've got me intrigued! If you'll send in your recipe, I promise to make it... (Well, ask Shelby to make it...) and let you know what I think in a future email. But you gotta promise to give the no-mayo version one more try... And then Rachele threw a curveball: Love getting these little emails! I won’t be making your recipe, but I have recently found a recipe that I think may be close to what my Nana used to make since I never got her recipe from her. I took a peek at your recipe and noticed one of the BEST ingredients missing – bacon!! She always had plenty of bacon and even added a bit of the bacon grease to the dish. It was AMAZING!! Just another variation to think about since I know you mentioned trying reds (my favorite potatoes!). Happy 4th to you!! Thank you, - Rachele W. Good eye Rachele, Rahma's recipe (and mine, by extension...) is meat-free. Rahma's a vegetarian, while Uncle Tommy isn't technically a vegetarian, I tend to skip meat about as often as I eat it. (And sometimes I abstain more than others...) My doc says it's good for me, but bacon does sound like a delicious addition! And when it came to my 4th of July message, you folks shared some amazing thoughts: Thanks Tommy, I agree with you! This still is the greatest place on earth , yes with some flaws, but you can't find another place like this one! - Jim M. Wonderful message Tommy! We are all in this together! -Beth C. Thank you, Tommy! I’ve lived in America for twenty years and my folks back in England don’t understand why I love this country so much. Peace and love and a Happy Fourth! -Ali xx Thank you, Uncle Tommy. Those are the most beautiful heartfelt words I’ve read in a very, very long time. My respect to you, Sir. Happy 4th. Keep safe. -Sharon Y Ah, you folks! You know just how to touch an old stoner's heart. Even with its flaws, America's a country I'm proud to call home. Alright, alright, before I get all choked up, let's get back to business. Our 4th of July sale? Still going strong for a few more days! If your stash is running low, now's your chance!
