So of course, there's no way we were gonna let Cinco de Mayo pass without throwing a proper fiesta! (I know, I know - Cinco de Mayo isn't until Friday, but who says we can't start the celebration early?) For those who don't know the history of this holiday, (guess where yours truly first heard it...) Cinco de Mayo dates all the way back back to 1862 (back when Cheech was still in high school... I kid, I kid...) Anyway General Zaragoza (for a fun time, google "how to pronounce Zaragoza in Spanish" ...) was squared off against the French.... (Yeah, THAT French...) and facing some pretty staggering odds in the battle of Peubla. Now, what the French were doing in Mexico in 1862 is a (very interesting) story for another time... But the upside is that Zaragoza's men kicked their French butts from here to kingdom come in true underdog fashion. It's a story worthy of raising a glass of whatever you prefer to drink... (Just not too early, hopefully). My buddy Cheech is incredibly proud of his heritage. In fact, he's got the biggest private collection of Chicano art in the world! It's so big, he loans some of it out to museums to put on display. No foolin'! Last year, he even partnered with the city of Riverside and the Riverside Art Museum to open The Cheech Marin Center For Chicano Art & Culture.
