Happy 4th of July, man! I hope you're ready for a day full of BBQs, fireworks, and good vibes. (the feeling, not the brown bottle with my face on it... but either way, enjoy!) As I sit here reflecting on what this day means, I can't help but think about the state of our country. It's an election year, we just had that first presidential debate, and let's face it - things feel pretty divided right now. It seems like the politicians and big money folks are wheeling and dealing, while the average American is left scratching their head. Trust me, I get it. It can feel overwhelming, frustrating, and even a little scary, man. But here's the thing Marilyn - your Uncle Tommy's been around the block a few times, and I've seen a lot (as have many of you) I've lived through the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and my fair share of "most important elections of our lifetime" (seems like that's what they call it each time the election year comes around, huh?) And you know what? We always seem to get through it one way or another. All this stuff comes in cycles, man. Sure, there's a whole lot happening now that we've never seen before, but ask yourself this - is there another country you'd rather be living in? For me, the answer is still a resounding no. (And I ain't just saying that...I got options man... I'm rich and still have Canadian Citizenship... just sayin'...) Now, I'm not saying we should bury our heads in the sand. Far from it, man. We should absolutely be engaged, educate ourselves, vote, and stand up for what we believe in. That's what makes this country great, after all. But here's a little advice from your Uncle Tommy - don't drive yourself crazy about stuff that's out of your control. Try not to get caught up in all the political theater, man. I think right now, we'd all be better off if we spent more time being grateful for the freedoms we have (maybe while enjoying a nice, cold High & Dry) than stressing out every day watching the news. Remember, at the end of the day, we're all Americans. We might disagree on a lot, but we're still in this together. So today, let's focus on what unites us rather than what divides us. The founders of this nation had some pretty groovy ideas - life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I mean, come on - that's like the ultimate stoner philosophy, man. Of course, we haven't always lived up to those ideals... but I'll tell you what. I think we've made a lot of progress towards them. And to me, that's something to celebrate. Any, that's enough from me (I know you don't read my emails for my philosophical musings, so thanks for humoring this old stoner). Enjoy your day, enjoy your freedom, and remember - we're all in this together, man. Keep on keepin' on Peace and love, [Tommy Signature] Tommy Chong P.S.
