Fatherâs Day is right around the corner, and man... It's been a real honor reading all the emails you sent in about your favorite Fatherâs Day gifts and memories. Here's the truth - Fatherâs Day can be a mixed bag of emotions. For some, it's a whole lot of fun and a day spent with family. But for those of you whose dads are no longer around, or who donât have the relationship with your kids that youâd like, know that Iâm thinking of you too, man. But today, I wanted to feature some of my favorite responses from the past few emails, because they really put a big olâ smile on my face, man. In no particular order... Love the mug! You continue to crack me up ð. My Dad has been gone for 19 years, & I still miss him everyday. The answer to your gift inquiry is the same as last year: My "go-to" father's day gift for my Dad was always fishing supplies, as that was one of his absolute favorite things to do. He ALWAYS received the fish paraphernalia with great enthusiasm & gratitude, always saying something like, "Oh good!!.. I need some of those!" After he died, one day Mom & I were sorting through his stuff, & we found enough hooks, line, sinkers, fishing poles, reels, etc etc etc to last nine lifetimes!ð He never once let on that his back-up stock was already indeed well stocked, but that's just the kind of guy he was 𥰠Judith K, Nevada Sounds like your dad could have opened his own fishing shop, Judith! But you're right, I'm sure he loved getting those gifts from you just as much as using them (or pretending to). It's definitely thought that counts. My birthday is close to Fathers Day. My Dad and I always celebrated together. The cake was divided one side for him the other decorated for me . My Dad's gone for many years now. I really miss him especially in our shared day . Michelle L, Virginia That cake is a lot like life, man - much better when shared with someone you care about. Sending lots of good vibes your way this week, Michelle. Hey, Tommy, this year I got my Mom's hubby a great gift. I ordered a Hawaiian style shirt with the face of his beloved kitty cat peeking thru the leaves and flowers. And I am wrapping and leaving it on the kitchen table for him to find with a Father's Day card from the cat. I'll try to get her to sign it with a pawprint. Actually, I liked the idea so much, I ordered one for myself and uploaded 5 pictures of my cats to peek out of the shirt pocket and sit on the shoulder and peek thru leaves. Lori Jo S, PA [Aloha Cats] Now thatâs a purrfect gift! Cats on a Hawaiian shirt AND getting the cat to sign the card? He's gonna be the coolest cat in town. As they say, aloha and meow! Tommy, I haven't received a regular Father's Day gift in over 30 years, due to my request of course! I asked both of my children to give me the one thing a regular gift just can't fulfill, and that is a Hug and kiss on the cheek when they are in town and a phone call if they are out of town. They still ask me what I want, and I always tell them "LOVE and RESPECT!" That, to me, is the best gift any father can receive! I also tell them that they should buy a gift for themselves that reminds them of me, if they feel the need to buy a gift. Have a joyful and memorable Father's Day Tommy! âï¸â®ï¸ Woody, Michigan Woody, youâve nailed it, man. Love and respect â the ultimate gifts. Youâve got it figured out, and youâre passing on the wisdom. Thatâs what being a dad is all about â spreading the love and teaching the next generation what really matters. About 15 years ago I was traveling for work and when I got home Fatherâs Day weekend my family surprised me by buying me a drum kit and turning our living room into a music room. I played drums as a kid but hadnât done it for many years. They got all my old albums out of the attic, made a display of all my concert ticket stubs and mounted that along with many other musical items. We already had a piano in there and my sonâs guitars and amps. Over the years my kids had many jam sessions with their friends in that room. I participated often and also spent many happy hours of solo playing with headphones. So many great memories in there! Rock on! Rick S, OH Keep on drumming, Rick! Lifeâs all about making those happy memories and jamming out with the people you love. These stories remind me why Fatherâs Day is so special. Itâs not about the price tag or the fanciness of the gift â itâs about the love, thought, and memories that come with it.
