Access to the ballot, LGBTQ+ rights, and reproductive access are being impacted by disinformation online. May Newsletter May 26, 2023 The [George Washington Initiative]( is committed to locating and dismantling disinformation ecosystems. As our initiative grows, we also want to make sure we keep you informed about emerging dis- and misinformation – or DisMis for short – and ways you can support our efforts. Fueled by false claims of election fraud, Republican-led legislatures in states like Texas, Florida, and North Carolina began introducing legislation that significantly impacts access to the ballot. Limits to voting by mail and a ban on ballot drop boxes are just a few of these examples. In yet another pivotal election season, our ability to respond to new waves of disinformation are already being tested. As disinformation finds its way to critical voting and human rights legislation, we cannot afford to dismiss this threat. The George Washington Initiative has been forging a path to combat dis- and misinformation and prevent another January 6th. Thanks to your support, our system to track dis- and misinformation is officially patent-pending. And this is only the beginning. We know we can do so much more. Dis- and misinformation impacts everyone, and without a concerted effort to combat it, we will continue to find ourselves in crisis after crisis.
