1. It’s got a bit of the creepy factor (don’t kick the dirt, that’s Uncle Joe!), but the idea of turning people into compost has arrived in Colorado. State Rep. Brianna Titone, D-Arvada, and Sen. Robert Rodriguez, D-Denver, have latched onto an idea that’s getting a foothold in Washington state: a process to convert human bodies into compost that can then be used to fertilize the garden or in conservation efforts...[Read more.](
2. As of Dec. 13, Colorado Springs already had exceeded its $1,325,000 budget allocated for snow removal efforts this year by $100,000, said city spokeswoman Vanessa Zink. Expenses accrued after Monday’s storm were not included in the calculation, she said...[Read more.](
3. On Facebook Saturday night, Gov. Polis gave us a lesson about the state’s only known volcano. He posted: “There is exactly one active volcano in all of Colorado: The Dotsero Crater in Eagle County. Dotsero last erupted about 4,000 years ago, and while it’s capable of erupting again, there haven’t been any recent signs of unusual activity."...[Read more.](
4. A 17-year-old Colorado Springs boy who shot a fellow teen in the head after enlisting a girl to lure the victim into a robbery is headed to prison. Angel Rafael Martinez was sentenced this month to 35 years in prison in the November 2018 robbery and killing of Luis Starkey Chavez — the result, authorities said, of a plot in which Martinez’s girlfriend reached out to Chavez on Facebook and invited him over with promises of sex, assuring him they would be alone...[Read more.](
5. The Sports Business Journal reported Monday that the Colorado Springs-based Mountain West Conference, home to Air Force and Colorado State, will shift rights to broadcast football and basketball games from ESPN to Fox Sports.
