Nearly 750 people attended the Downtown Partnership’s 22nd annual breakfast Thursday at The Antlers hotel — the event’s largest attendance and one that allowed area boosters to bask in the glow of what partnership president and CEO Susan Edmondson called downtown’s “evolving renaissance.” A few years ago, the sight of a construction crane in downtown was a “what’s that?” moment. Now, they’re almost common as real estate developers, businesses, nonprofits and local governments inject new life into downtown...[Read more.](
2. A group established to seek donations for an effort to recall Gov. Jared Polis that didn’t reach the ballot filed a campaign finance report Wednesday with Secretary of State Jena Griswold’s office saying it distributed $11,000 of contributions it received as gifts to employees and board members. The group — one of a number involved in the Polis recall attempt — calls itself “Official Recall Colorado Governor Jared Polis.”...[Read more.](

A small-caliber handgun was found in the backpack of a first-grade student at the Falcon Elementary School of Technology, prompting an investigation by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and District 49, officials said. The handgun was found after the first-grader showed a staff member a single round, according to a statement on the school's website...[Read more.](
4. Mountain Metropolitan Transit is revving up weekend bus service on more than a dozen routes. Starting next week, the transit agency will add Saturday evening service to 13 routes, according to a news release...[Read more.](
5. Air Force football faces a conference foe Friday, but this might as well be a brand new opponent. The Falcons haven’t seen San Jose State since 2016, which is standard as the division schedule flopped this year, bringing the Spartans, Fresno State and Hawaii back onto the schedule after a two-year gap. But this is unique in that so much has changed in this series that will be contested for the fifth time, with Air Force holding a 3-1 advantage...[Read more.](
