All the news you can use in a bite-sized format Hi {NAME}, Happy Thursday! Considering it's Friday Eve, today is a good day to consider your weekend options. As usual, there is a lot to do in the Pikes Peak area. A Lego-like[Brick Bar]( is open in Denver starting today and running through Saturday. The [Air Force Academy Falconaires]( are performing at a free jazz concert on Friday and the[Native American Intertribal Powwow]( is on Saturday. There's no shortage of ways to spend your time this weekend. In frivolous news, today is National Dollar Day, National CBD Day, National Frozen Custard Day, National Sneak Some Zucchini Into Your Neighbor's Porch Day (And no, I didn't make that one up.) and National Happiness Happens Day. Without further ado, here are 5 things worth sharing today. 1. Gazette columnist David Ramsey grew up in Denver, not far from the former site of the mansion/palace on 13th and Sherman where Baby Doe Tabor lived in the 1880s and 1890s as one of the richest women in the world. Ramsey visits the mountain shack where Tabor lived, died and thrived. [Read more...]( 3. Solar Roast Coffee, a company that uses solar energy to roast its beans, is downtown Colorado Springs’ newest coffee shop, replacing the Starbucks on the street corner near Acacia Park. [Read more...]( 4. A small grassroots volunteer effort among employees at The Broadmoor hotel has experienced an influx of generosity this year. A school supply drive was initiated three years ago by hotel staff whose children or grandchildren attend Harrison School District 2, where three-fourths of students are from low-income households, or by workers who have relatives who are teachers. The drive has grown considerably since then. [Read more...]( 5. During tonight's preseason game, the Broncos prefer to see more from one first-round pick (Noah Fant) and the same dazed and confused look they saw over three forgettable seasons from another (Paxton Lynch). Lynch is competing for the backup quarterback job with the Seahawks. Fant is competing for starter snaps as a Broncos rookie. [Read more...]( Photo of the day - Jason Roys and Ian Schimpfle drive Schimpfle's Toyota down the rough road that leads to their claims near the top of Mount Antero and Mount White. The pair have been friends since the sixth grade and spend their summers in pitched tents in the forest above 11,000 feet - a modern day mining camp.
