All the news you can use in a bite-sized format Hi {NAME}, Good Monday morning! We're learning more

All the news you can use in a bite-sized format Hi {NAME}, Good Monday morning! We're learning more about the mass shootings in [Texas]( [Ohio](. Meanwhile, two Coloradans seeking the Democratic presidential nomination called for the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate to take up [gun-control]( legislation. If you need a break/distraction, I highly recommend [this]( from features writer Seth Boster. In it he describes some local museums that are hidden gems. I'd also check out [this]( story from Woody Paige about late Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and retired cornerback Champ Bailey. They were both inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame over the weekend. In frivolous news, today is National Underwear Day, National Oyster Day and National Work Like a Dog Day. If I worked like my dog, Butters, I'd sleep 23 hours a day. Without further ado, here are 5 things worth sharing today. 1. A robbery suspect, who police said reached for a gun when confronted by officers, was shot and killed Saturday night southeast of Memorial Park. The shooting has raised tensions in the neighborhood, with a large crowd gathering Saturday night, a vigil Sunday evening at Adams Park and calls for a police brutality protest Monday at City Hall. They’re hoped to provide a long-term solution for treating water drawn from an aquifer saturated with toxic chemicals from firefighting foam used for decades by nearby Peterson Air Force Base. [Read more...]( 3. With $300,000-and-under single-family homes getting scarce in the Pikes Peak region, increasing numbers of buyers are looking south to Pueblo and Pueblo West to purchase homes for tens of thousands of dollars less. [Read more...]( 4. In the past five years, Colorado Springs’ food truck scene has blossomed. Now, with more than 150 trucks offering pizza, barbecue, tacos, Jamaican jerk, Cuban sandwiches, sushi rolls, gourmet burgers, even Maine lobster, the question is: Can they all get a big enough slice of the pie to make it? [Read more...]( 5. The Broadmoor Pikes Peak Cycling Hill Climb just got a boost. The Colorado Springs Sports Corp. recently announced the inclusion of electric bikes for the first time ahead of this weekend's race. Starting at 6:13 a.m. Saturday, those bikes will help cyclists climb Pikes Peak in a noncompetitive race to the top of America’s Mountain. [Read more...]( Photo of the day - Chris Schilling, from Dallas, Texas, checks out Isak Heartstone, a 15-foot tall wooden troll sculpture by Danish artist Thomas Dambo at its new home near Illinois Gulch trailhead in Breckenridge on Saturday, Aug. 3. 2019. The sculpture was dismantled from his original location last year after complaints from nearby residents stating there was too much traffic and noise from the attraction.
