All the news you can use in a bite-sized format Hi {NAME}, Hello Tuesday! The Colorado Rockies provided a glimpse of their old playoff selves in Monday night's rout of the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field. It was a nice reminder of the postseason berths they achieved in 2018 and 2019. But don't be fooled, columnist [Paul Klee]( writes. Klee says the Rockies should be dealing away assets as the MLB trade deadline approaches. Another story I found interesting was written by some of The Gazette's summer interns. [They tackled their first 14er]( and found it more challenging than anticipated. Their perspective was amusing considering two of the three are from out of state. An iconic lake in the heart of Green Mountain Falls lost most of its water last weekend after an aging, manmade outlet on its eastern shores breached. A contractor was to begin repairing the outlet Tuesday and finish the job Thursday for about $5,000, said Mayor Jane Newberry. [Read more...]( 2. Some Monument area residents are making last-ditch efforts to thwart Classic Holmes' plans to expand a foothills subdivision. They say the developer hasn't considered how another 180 homes in Forest Lake will affect wildlife, infrastructure and neighbors southeast of Mount Herman, or how new residents could clog the roads that would be used to escape from wildfires. [Read more...]( 3. Late-summer meteor showers and a rare Black Supermoon will bring wonder to Colorado mountain skies. First up is the annual Perseids meteor shower, one of the most anticipated stargazing wonders to see in Colorado boasting 50 to 75 meteors per hour. According to the American Meteor Society, the Perseid shower is active now through Aug. 26, with the peak coming next week. [Read more...]( 4. Is there any doubt that residents of the Pikes Peak region are attracted to water? Just spend time at Palmer Lake - the highest natural spring-fed lake in the continental U.S., according to the town's website. Other area lakes, including Colorado Springs' Prospect Lake, are very popular for fishing and limited boating. Susan Davies offers a few ideas for how to increase the options. [Read more...]( 5. Authorities arrested 14 people who they believe distributed about 90 pounds of drugs to patrons at bars in downtown Colorado Springs and in unincorporated El Paso County. Detectives seized about 70 pounds of meth, 15 pounds of heroin, 4 pounds of cocaine and 3,100 fentanyl pills, the U.S. Attorney's office announced. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
