All the news you can use in a bite-sized format Hi {NAME}, Happy Wednesday! You're halfway through the work week. You can do it! If you're into hard rock, you'll be happy to know that [Slayer]( will be playing at the Broadmoor World Arena on Nov. 20. You can hear the band sing hits like "Seasons in the Abyss" and "War Ensemble" in person. Tickets go on sale Friday. I really enjoyed this story on TCA alum [Daniel Carlson]( who is now an NFL kicker. It chronicles his stellar college career, his successes and failures in the NFL and the support system that surrounds him. It's a good read. In completely unrelated news, today is National Clerihew Day and National Pina Colada Day. A clerihew is a short, humorous four-line, biographical poem. "Escape" (The Pina Colada Song)" was released by Rupert Holmes in 1979 and although catchy, it's quite disturbing if you listen closely to the lyrics. But I digress. Without further ado, here are 5 things worth sharing today. 1. Discussions are underway about discontinuing the annual motorcycle race portion of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb after Carlin Dunne’s recent fatal crash, the third death of a Hill Climb motorcycle racer since 2014. Undeveloped green space on Colorado Springs’ northwest side was declared blighted Tuesday in a controversial City Council move that will help fund a proposed visitors center for the Air Force Academy. The area, dubbed the True North Commons Urban Renewal Area, is expected to generate about $16 million in tax revenue over the next 25 years. [Read more...]( 3. The Pikes Peak Community Foundation announced the creation this week of the El Paso and Teller County Emergency Relief Funds. They'll be credible, ever-present funds for donations during the next major wildfire, flood or other disaster, said Gary Butterworth, CEO of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation. [Read more...]( 4. Colorado’s collection of 14,000-foot peaks are gorgeous and dangerous, and they beckon with thrills and chills to two levels of candidates. There are the fit but unconfident, who struggle to imagine walking for miles above timberline. And there are the fit but overconfident, who believe they can walk to the top on their hands. Whatever your fitness level, David Ramsey believes almost anyone can conquer a Colorado fourteener. [Read more...]( 5. About 90 football players will report to Dove Valley next week for the start of Broncos training camp. That number will be whittled down to 53 before the season starts. Gazette sports columnist Woody Paige, who has covered 45 Broncos camps, already has some ideas on who will make cut and who will be sent packing.[Read more...]( Photo of the day - Under a sunny, blue sky the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Parade went off without a hitch. The parade kicks off the 79th annual Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo that will be held at the Norris-Penrose Event Center Wednesday through Saturday night this week.
