A few days ago, I received a brilliant "pitch" email from a young copywriter called Aron. Now... on the surface, they're nothing unique about this... I get pitch emails from wannabe copywriters all the time. But this one was different! Why? Because -- unlike 95% of others who TELL me how eager they supposedly are to become my apprentice... (which is almost always overly optimistic on their part) This guy actually SHOWED me his passion, dedication, and creativity! How? By weaving proven persuasion principles into his pitch ;) And since I'm now seriously thinking of taking him "under my wing" to help me with some stuff in the business... I wanted to deconstruct his approach step by step to hopefully show the copywriters/freelancers on my list a great case study of doing this RIGHT. So let's explore together, shall we? Step 1: Instead of a cold pitch, he responded to one of my reply-generating emails More specifically, the "birthday wish" email I sent out last week... Asking people about how my stuff (my courses, free content, emails, etc) has impacted their lives so far. (if you missed that, [here's the link]()) Why does this matter? Simple: Because people with an email list are much more likely to engage with replies to one of their own emails. It automatically puts you in a different category compared to sending them a direct email, asking for something. Which is a GREAT way to start the conversation on the right foot. He said (translated from Hungarian): "Hey Csaba! Whenever I think about the fact that -- as a Hungarian myself -- can I ever get to the level of a well-respected copywriting expert, I always remind myself of YOUR story. Happy Birthday! Aron" Step 2: He attached a greeting card (which actually turned out to be MUCH more than a simple greeting card!) Now look... His birthday email already made me feel a bit warm & fuzzy inside because... let's be honest here... Who DOESN'T like hearing that they're an inspiration to the younger generation, right? (PRO TIP: flattery almost always works!) And in addition to that, he also attached a PDF with the following cover image: To be honest... At first, I didn't think much of it. Sure, it was a nice card, but I thought that was it. But the little " See what's inside" made me curious. In fact, it made me feel like a kid again! "What could it be, I asked myself??" So I opened it and scrolled down a page... And that's when I realized... Step 3: Aron included a full-blown SALES LETTER with his card! And I was like, "Whaaaaaaat?!" Suddenly, Aron went from "another kind email subscriber"... To "the most interesting guy in my inbox"! And I knew I HAD to read his sales letter from start to finish. Here's what he wrote: "Dear Csaba! First of all, I would like to wish you a happy birthday! I hope it will be a fan-cake-tastic day for you and your beautiful family! Now let me ask you a tricky question! 🤔 What’s the ONE thing these people had in common as they approached 36? - The Godfather, Vito Corleone - Oldschool Copy Legends: Gary Halbert, John Carlton - New wave titans: Kyle Milligan, Sean MacIntyre ..Yeah, they all knew how to convince people! But their methods differed... Jokes aside, there IS one thing that makes a huge difference! But before I tell you what it is, I should properly introduce myself. I’m an engineer who found out that he loves sharing world-changing thoughts... And has something to do with writing, and somehow he found himself writing copy every day... Hanging on 3-4 hours long copy livestreams, and reading about the life of old-school direct marketers. And that’s how I found out the secret of how these copy legends have come so far in their business... ... all of them had a consigliere ... ... a college they worked with ... ... a right hand ... Gary had John watching his back. John had Kevin Rogers keeping disturbing factors away when he needed to perform. And Kyle has Taylor Murphy leading his private community. Now you may think: „OK, but we don’t know each other” and you would be right! The reason why you would still want to work with me is simple: I can shovel money into YOUR pocket...but I don't need you to pay me! I have a flexible job at a Hungarian SMMA that pays my bills. „So WIIFY, Aron?”, you might ask. What I need is a foreign battlefield where I can test my skills and a TON of knowledge that I can only acquire from practical experiences with projects outside of Hungary. I can handle every writing project you give me... Whether they are monotonous tasks at first... or even if they're rough waters where it requires every single brain cell to come up with something good. I’ll figure it out. I’ll find a way to make it work. I’ll rewrite it 30 times if needed! First, we could try out how we can work together, and you don’t have to pay me anything in this trial period. After that, you’ll see if it’s beneficial to you to continue this collaboration or not. You can check my porƞolio, and I can meet you anywhere in Budapest if you want to see who is making these promises, and we can talk about that in person. {LINK TO PORTFOLIO| Don’t answer now. Enjoy your time with your family, and let’s get back to it later. Wishing you all the best! Aron B. Hot damn, talk about standing out from the crowd! Since this email is already clocking in at 955 words, I don't have time to analyze everything in his letter... But I encourage you to read it again... And try to identify all the persuasion triggers he's pulling! Would I do a few things differently? Absolutely! But something like this coming from a 19-year-old guy who's technically part of the "TikTok generation"? Might impressive! So I'm meeting with him tomorrow to get to know each other a bit better and see how we can best help each other. Win-win :) All because he had the courage, creativity, and confidence to pitch me in a way that's different and superior compared to anything else I've seen before. THAT already shows he has a "unique mechanism" inside of him... And it also shows how to do this right, if you're a beginner copywriter or freelancer. (or you just want to REALLY impress someone) Hope you've found it helpful. Till next time, -Csaba P.S. -- If you want my step-by-step freelance copywriting system you can easily follow...
