Hey hey hey... Happy New Year, {NAME} 🙌 May 2024 bring you lots of joy, fulfillment, and happiness! (and all the things your heart desires) Now... At this time of the year, most people like to send out emails such as "my biggest predictions for 2024" or "TOP X predictions for 2024". And you know what? That's a completely fine content strategy whenever starting a new year. However, this time, I wanna do something different. Instead of giving you my predictions for 2024... I want to re-visit some of the WORST predictions all sorts of "experts" made in 2023 😀 Why? Because, honestly, I'm tired of speculative predictions. And why's that? Because they're just that: Predictions. Hopeful beliefs about things we expect to happen in the future. Because the truth is... Nobody (and I mean NOBODY) can accurately predict the future. Not the "experts"... Not the "leaders"... And not even your favorite guru. So why are there still so many predictions out there, regardless? Simple: Nothing gets attention like a seemingly credible, scary prediction. (I mean, there's a whole class of Leads popularized by John Forde called "Prediction Leads". Ex: the famous End of America promo) The thing is, we’re biologically wired to be scared by negative things... And unfortunately, many people absolutely exploit this. Just look at your newsfeed. However, this isn't really my style... And because of that, I don't see a reason to send you another speculative email full of "Hopiom" and/or "Copium". Instead... Let's revisit some of the biggest prediction blunders of 2023. (inspired by a recent email from the Morning Brew newsletter) Prediction Bluder #1: AI would take all our jobs (and change everything) Look... 2023 was undoubtedly the year of AI. It brought with it a momentous shift in how we look at this game-changing technology... And it was the first time ever when even your Average Joe realized that AI is probably here to stay. HOWEVER... Despite all the technological breakthroughs, the predicted societal shake-up never came. For example... I remember how -- in January-February 2023 -- virtually every copywriting and marketing guru selling the current "The Flavor of the Month" was spooking us with how AI will make copywriters (and most marketing jobs) obsolete. That it will write better copy than your average writer faster, better, and with less effort. Fast-forward to January 2024, and -- although AI is immensely helpful in SOME tasks -- I see more and more people realize (and publicly talk about) how AI isn't some magic messiah just yet. For example... If you as high-level email players like Ben Settle, Chris Orzechowski, Ross O'Lochlainn, and Daniel Throssell, and ask them about their thoughts on AI... They'll all tell you a version of: "Sure, AI is powerful and has lots of potential... but people ultimately want to read emails written by REAL humans, not robots... no matter how close to lifelike". Heck... I've already seen several agencies of all kinds proudly advertising how they DON'T use AI in their workflow. So I'm really seeing a major resistance in how AI-generated stuff is perceived... And HUMANITY in marketing is quickly becoming a massive value proposition. Prediction Blunder #2: The Economic Recession That Never Was If there was ONE thing almost every single financial expert and analyst agreed on last year, it was that 2023 would bring with it a MAJOR recession. Big players like Bloomberg, JPMorgan, Moody's, and an army of Wall Street pundits ALL predicted that the stock market would crash... The real estate market would crash... And basically, everything else would also crash. Why? Multiple reasons like the FED hiking interest rates, being in a Bull Market for so long, and many other factors. But all that doom & gloom never came! The most well-predicted Recession in history never came. Which is ironic, since it was supposed to be THE one thing they all agreed on! Instead, stocks are riding higher than ever, the labor market is strong, and it seems like we managed to (mostly) tackle inflation too... without too much pain. Alas... One thing's for sure: No matter how likely something seems... No matter how big the consensus between experts is... And no matter how much something may SEEM logical... Nobody has a clue about the future. Nobody. (not even AI... or even the dreaded "General Artificial Intelligence", when it eventually comes online) So don't rely on fortune tellers whenever you make a decision. Their hit rate isn't really better than the standard 50%. Prediction Blunder #3: If you just do this ONE {INSERT MAGIC TACTIC} in 2023, you'll finally be RICH! Ah yes... Shiny new tactics promising you the word... selling your Dream of a better tomorrow. Classic. And you know what? I'll bet you my left kidney you'll see EVEN MORE of this in 2024! As more whiz-bang AI tools come out with the promise of giving you unparalleled breakthroughs in your business... Saving you tons of time... And doing the hard work FOR YOU... You'll see more and more "Opportunity Marketing" pitches. What's an Opportunity Marketing pitch, you say? It's basically a more sophisticated version of the Get-R|ch-Quick Scheme. It's a type of biz op campaign that sells you the Dream... And exploits your inner Greed and "This Time Will Be Different" motivations. Now make no mistake... This stuff WORKS. It works really, really well. But it's usually unethical... and it's a great way to burn bridges with people who look up to you. Once again, this isn't my style... And -- even though opportunity marketing converts really well -- I would rather be frank with you and tell you the truth up-front: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A MAGIC PILL... NO MATTER HOW SEXY THE "FLAOR OF THE MONTH"... AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT SEEMS LIKE THIS TIME IT'S DIFFERENT! Whiz-bang tactics alone will never EVER get you the breakthroughs you desire. Instead, what really matters are the fundamental principles. -- Your audience selection -- Your offer -- Your messaging Those are the 3 biggest levers you can pull. Not just in 2024... but in 2025, 2026, 2027... and so on until infinity. So don't fall victim (again) to lofty claims this year... Because whatever it's predicting will likely NOT come true. That is... Unless you're willing to put in the time, commitment, investment, and elbow grease necessary to make it work. Understand that some sacrifice IS absolutely necessary. However... That doesn't mean you have to sacrifice everything... Or that you have to sacrifice too much. The truth is... Sometimes you only have to sacrifice a little. And if you have access to a mentor who respects the principle fundamentals and has a proven system to help accelerate your journey... ...then you might only have to sacrifice very little :) If that sounds interesting to you... and you'd like me to be YOUR personal mentor... then hit reply, tell me a bit about your goals and challenges for 2024.. and let's see if I can help you make 2024 your best year yet!
