Confession time, {NAME}... Lately, I've been doing a horrible job keeping to my email marketing schedule. Instead of sending 3-5 emails per week (like what I'm supposed to do)... I think I barely sent 1-2/wk these past few weeks. So in essence... I have become a poster child for what you're NOT supposed to do when you run an email list-based business. (^ ^ and there you go: a surprising "show, don't tell" -type of lesson for you right there! 😃) Anyway... The reason? Well... there are multiple, actually: 1 - I started working with a handful 1-on-1 clients lately to help them with their marketing, funnels, and messaging. Most of these are consulting (or done-with-you) engagements... But I also took on a done-for-you copy project for an older client of mine who's launching a new AI-powered goal-setting app. It's actually a bit similar to Duolingo... (the popular language learning app) But this one's aimed at people who want to achieve meaningful goals faster, using a gamified, personalized AI coach called "Reachy". Anyway, I very rarely take on done-for-you projects nowadays... But this one looks promising so I made an exception. 2 - I'm still in a BIG transitionary process when it comes to my target audience. Here's the situation: When I originally started this list, it was mainly about email marketing and copywriting. That's why my first major product ever was [Rainmaker Email Mastery.]() (which puts the timeless fundamental principles of sending high-converting emails into a simple step-by-step system) However... As I started creating more and more content about copywriting -- including my [famous 100-day proven sales letter breakdown challenge]( -- I naturally started attracting more and more copywriters. Problem is... 80% of these people aren't practicing copywriters at all... They're wannabe copywriters who never had a single client or real-life project before... And think that copywriting is a business opportunity that can make them a lot of money quickly. And this is ESPECIALLY true when it comes to subscribers from third-world countries. Because the brutal truth is this: 95% of them will never become high-paid copywriters. Not because they are from third-world countries... Or because they have a "mark" on their foreheads... But because a disproportionately large number of them simply lack the freelancing, business, professional, and soft skills necessary to land clients from rich Western countries (like the US). And 99.5% of them simply don't have the financial means to pay to improve these skills. (unsurprisingly, less than 0.5% of my total sales come from these countries, despite my current list being made up of 30%+ of people from Nigeria, India, and Pakistan) And that's totally fine and understandable (especially when they're in a hard situation)... But you can't grow a business off of freeloaders and freebie-seekers. Now... I'm sorry if that rubs you the wrong way... But it's the honest truth. And if you don't believe me, just ask anyone in this industry who has their own email list, and they'll tell you the same. So that's why I'm currently in the process of shifting my focus back to online entrepreneurs who sell education products (like courses and coaching programs). But since the majority of my *current* list is NOT made up of these people... Sometimes I just feel conflicted about the topic of my emails... Which results in confusion... Which created procrastination. I know it's not ideal... But I'm working on it :) 3 - I'm spending WAAAY too much time deep-diving into topics like geopolitics, geostrategy, global foreign affairs, and military strategy... Especially when it comes to the Russia-Ukraine war... And now the horrific attack on Israel. So much so, in fact, that I spent 30+ hours last week alone (!) sifting through as many different reports as I could... From different people... Different sources... And different affiliations... So I could form a (hopefully) more unbiased view of what's really happening. I always try to be as impartial and factual as I can when it comes to anything in life... And I felt like I needed to put in the work to better understand the situation... and be better at cutting through the "fog of war". Does that mean I 100% understand what's going on? Of course not. Only demagogues and scam artists say that. But I do believe I have a better grasp than most people. (not because I'm "smarter"... but because I've put in more work using higher-quality sources over a longer period of time... instead of just blindly believing things like manipulative Kremlin propaganda aimed at triggering emotions, for example) In addition... This whole crisis is a VERY interesting, VERY real case study on propaganda, information warfare, and disinformation campaigns. Which -- to a diehard copywriter -- are all fascinating topics. I just pray there won't be any new major escalation and there's still a reasonable "off-ramp" for both sides 🙏 So yeah... 3 reasons why I haven't been emailing so much lately.
