Jose booked this free 30-minute call after my last "wanted poster"-style email... In which I was looking to help working freelance copywriters add an extra $4-6k/mo to their income within just 90 days. And pretty quickly after we started getting to know each other, I realized why Jose was stuck working 50-60-hour weeks barely making $3k. Now... If you're a beginner or you've never had a copywriting client before, this number might seem more than "good enough" for you. Heck... Lots of freelancers I know -- especially from 3rd world countries -- would KILL if they consistently made that sort of money. But since Jose has been doing this for more than 3 years... working with multiple clients on Upwork... and gaining lots of valuable experience... ...He wanted more. (understandably so) So pretty early on during our call, I realized Jose's biggest problem: He was stuck charging his clients $25-35/hour... Believing that -- if he charged more -- his clients would fire him and his income would drop off a cliff... Leaving him to barely make ends meet... And unable to properly support his wife + 2 kids. (not to mention paying his mortgage, credit card bills, etc.) Now... These are some totally valid fears... and one way or the other, most of us have to deal with them from time to time. In fact... When I got started as a freelance copywriter back in 2017, I used to struggle with this a LOT... And I've personally experienced the dreaded "Feast & Famine" cycle more times than I could count. BUT... Precisely BECAUSE I've lived through this myself... And came out the other side stronger, wiser, and no longer worrying about financial insecurity... I deeply understood what Jose was going through -- and how he could fix this problem. So... At one point -- when he was telling me about this new lead who wanted him to write a 7-part email sequence... and how he was willing to charge $350 for it -- I told him the following: "Why $350? What's so special about that?" At which point... He started robotically explaining why he could only charge that much since his hourly rate on Upwork is only $35/hr... And nobody would ever pay him more than that... And how he would certainly lose this gig to someone who charged way less... And things like that. Basically, a bunch of (false) limiting beliefs 😃 And let me tell you something, {NAME}... After working with hundreds of clients... And helping thousands of copywriters... I can confidently tell you the following: These limiting beliefs are ALL in your head. They're part of YOUR subjective reality (and NOT in someone else's reality) So after a bit more back and forth of "motivating" Jose, he reluctantly came up with the idea to charge TWICE his original amount... $700 for the 7 emails. Now, again... to lots of beginner copywriters, that amount sounds SEEXXEEEHHH! But on the other hand... In a world where you have at least 10%+ inflation almost everywhere... (26% (!) here in Hungary.... yaaay.... thanks, Orban) And even everyday items like food have become SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive... It's not that much, to be honest. Especially when you consider how much extra revenue those 7 emails can produce for that client. So after doing a little "mental math"... trying to encourage Jose to charge more based on Value, instead of the terrible hourly rate model... I told him: "You know... why not make it a nice, round number... say... $1000 for the package of 7 emails" At which point, Jose almost fell out of his chair! 😂 I mean... seriously... His face turned pale... his demeanor changed... and his eyes oozed a sense of "disbelief" "How... how... how could I charge that? She'd FOR SURE reject my offer??!" - he said. "Why not give it a try? I think you'd be surprised." - I continued. I also told Jose that -- YES -- there is no guarantee his prospective new client would take this offer... But what's the worst that can happen? He loses that lead. (which isn't a big deal since he can always find more on Upwork) But the upside? He 3X-s his project fee... which means making an extra $700 for the same amount of work... But most importantly, he validates that this IS indeed possible. ^ ^ And that is very, very powerful. Because it's undefinable proof that his Limiting Beliefs are bullshit. At that point, our time was up... And I reminded Jose to give it a try and report back to me. Well... Guess who I got a nice email from yesterday? 😃 Yepp... our guy Jose! This is what he sent me: === "Hi Csaba, Thank you very much for your advice, I appreciate it. By the way, not sure if you remember this client I was waiting on to give her a budget for writing 7 emails to convince readers to subscribe after the seven-day trial? (You asked me to update you on this, so here comes) Remember I told you I was gonna go for about $350...for 7 emails? But then I said I was going to pick up some bravery and analyze the possibility of asking for $700...? But.....you told me, "why not $1,000?" to which I almost choked and I told you I was afraid to lose this one even before winning it...? Well, guess what..?! I'll tell you on my next email so stay tuned.... ....kidding... I took your advice and sent a $1,000 budget for 7 emails..!! you have no idea how hard pressing that return button was....there goes nothing.... And.... ....she took my offer!! Dude, and all of this only after a FREE call with you! All I can say is thank you! And will be in touch regarding your full coaching program. Take care JP P.S. Right after I sent her the $1k budget (and before she responded), I went to UpWork and upgraded my hourly fee from $50 to $75. Yeah, I know, baby steps, but steps still..." BOOOOOOOOM 💣💣💣 That's what I'm talking about !!! Huuuuuge congrats to Jose 👏👏👏 This is exactly what happens when you are willing to stare your FEAR in the face... And -- despite its icy grip on you -- you tell it: "Go f*ck yourself!" And do the thing you were afraid of for far too long ANYWAY. You get what you want... And you realize how much more in life is possible compared to your current subjective reality. So... If you've ever been in a situation like Jose... And you've been afraid to raise your price or aim higher... Give it a shot and let me know how it goes! (Seriously... you'd be surprised by what's possible) Cheers, -Csaba P.S. -- If you’re a freelance copywriter who's already working with clients… but feel like you could be further ahead... Then you might just be a few strategies, tactics, and best practices away from 2X-ing your rates and landing higher quality clients who value your work and are a dream to work with. And... just like I helped Jose triple his rate after just a 30-minute (FREE) conversation... I'd like to invite you too to book an Email Retainer Growth Gameplan call with me. === On this fast-paced call, we'll: Take a look at what you're currently charging (as well as the types of clients you're targeting)… to see what’s working and what isn’t Uncover the #1 bottleneck/obstacle stopping you from getting paid what you're worth... and working with "Dream Clients" who respect your work Identify what’s possible for you and your freelance copywriting business in the next 90 days (and beyond) And develop a simple 3-Step Action Plan you can install in your business and earn more moolah ASAP === As I said, this 30-minute gameplan call is 100% FREE...
