The other day someone posted the following question in a copywriting forum I'm part of: Question from a Copywriter Hi guys. I'm working on a test project for a client and my first milestone is to propose angles for emails. I've also been given the option to work on a sales page for the same product in parallel, if I would like to. Even though sales pages aren't my specialty, I thought I might as well go for it and show that I can, since I've been given the option to. I already have more "angles" than I probably need for the emails, and I kind of have a feel for how I'm going to present/express them (Since I've done it many times before now). But I was wondering how you would present "angles" for a sales page? When I think of angles for a sales page, my first thought is to think about ideas for the headline and lead. And the general approach I'd take in the copy. So yeah, my question is basically this - how would you present angles for a sales page? Great question! And in my experience, many people are wondering about the same thing. So here's the answer I sent him... === To me it seems like your client is basically looking for a few potential Big Ideas to start the sales page with. 3 typical Big Ideas that work well in my experience: 1 - Problem/Solution: Describe a burning problem that the target audience has and tease a solution (works great with Problem/Solution Leads - from the Great Leads Book) 2 - 10X Opportunity: show how this unique new opportunity is THE key to their #1 desire... and it's ONLY available through your unique mechanism (basically, Evaldo Albuquerque's 16-word sales letter lead type) 3 - Imminent Prediction: If you know of something that will happen in the near future that could have a major effect on the life of your Ideal Customer Avatar... use that to "scare" him into paying attention. Financial promotions do this quite often... but can work any time you know they have a big fear about something. Hope this helps 🙂 === Why so much fuss about this elusive "Big Idea" thing? Because it single-handedly accounts for 80% of a given marketing promotion's success. That's right... 80%! In fact, virtually every single sales letter I broke down during my 100-day proven sales letter breakdown challenge had a powerful Big Idea that’s: - Simple - Relevant - And immediately connects with the reader ...Without trying too hard to explain all the subtle details that make it work. It just... “connects”. And it hits HARD. The same is true with killer Hooks. For example, instead of saying: “This supplement is so great, it’s the best way to enhance your libido and have more energy, endurance, and stamina”... Boardroom’s “Mount Rushmore” copywriter, Parris Lampropoulos came up with the following: “Every night, Chinese emperor Kang Xi was REQUIRED to have sex with 9 women from his harem. And he was required to SATISFY each and every one of them. Here’s how he did it…” ^ ^ DAAAAYYYUMM!!! 🤩 Now THAT’s something that immediately grabs people by the balls! Case in point: A killer Big Idea and/or Hook is really freakin' important to make sure your promotion hits HARD. So don't be lazy about it. Just use one of the 3 Big Idea "Archetypes" from this email. You're welcome ;) -Csaba P.S. -- And if you want my step-by-step copywriting system for consistently creating high-converting sales messages... So you can finally get paid what you're worth...
