Note: today's email is a re-send of a series of emails I originally sent out after my 34th birthday, back in February 2022. That being said, it's an extremely insightful message that I also wanted to share with you. --------------------------------------------------------------- Yesterday was my birthday... And I figured I'd write an email sharing 34 major things I've learned in my 34 years on this planet. Enjoy... 1 - Focus on small, but CONSISTENT improvements Most people don't know this... but a daily improvement of 1% will make you 37X better after just ONE year. Yeah, I know... it's pretty amazing! However, 1% might be too much for most people... So even if you just improve by 1% each WEEK, you'll still end up TWICE as good compared to when you started. And the best part? This improvement will keep compounding over and over again -- until you stop. And if you form useful habits, you'll never stop ;) And speaking of habits... 2 - Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement The same way that money multiplies through compound interest, the effects of your habits multiply as you repeat them. In the short term, they don't seem to make much of a difference... But even after just a few months, their impact could be enormous. Don't overlook the power of habits... they make ALL the difference. 3 - Most things in life are connected Ever since I was young, I always wanted to be a "Renaissance man"... Someone who's interested in a lot of different things... and can create useful connections between these various concepts. For example, the similarity between the micro-world (microscopic and subatomic) and the macro-world (solar systems and galaxies). The funny thing is the more I learn about marketing, business, science, psychology, sociology, physics, biology, and arts... The more I marvel at how similar most of these systems actually are. And the more motivated I become to learn EVEN MOAAR :) 4 - How you do anything is how you do everything When I got into freelance copywriting, this was one of the first "mantras" I learned from a course. "How your client does anything is how they do everything" At first, I didn't want to believe it... But over the years, I realized that this is totally true in 90% of cases. And it also applies to many other areas of life. How people engage with you during your 1st hour together is a surprisingly accurate description of how they'll behave in the future. 5 - If you want to become a true expert (and not just a "so-called expert), focus on understanding the fundamental principles of your craft Most people in life only want the latest, shiniest tactics. They want the "magic pill", the "wonder solution", the "one simple trick". It's not their fault... it's how we're biologically wired. However, the problem with this mentality is that it's a fool's errand. In 99% of cases, there IS NO "magic pill" that can make you rich / happy / healthy overnight... There's just the culmination of years of hard work and effort that SEEMS like someone suddenly struck gold. Please don't confuse the two. 6 - It's OK to not want to build a huge business empire I don't know about you, {NAME}... But there's this myth in the world of entrepreneurship that in order to be successful, you NEED to build an impressive 7-, 8-, or 9-figure business... ...because otherwise, you're just a schmuck. But what if -- after a comfortable lifestyle -- you don't want 'mo money (which cases 'mo problems)? What if freedom is more important to you than managing dozens of employees at your "7-figure agency"? And what if you're just not that interested in trying to change the world? I used to think that's "lazy"... but now I think it's totally OK. Do what makes you happy (for real!) 7 - If you want to sell something, always sell on emotion If you're on my list, you've probably heard that: "You should sell on emotion and justify with logic" And although most people I talk to KNOW this... they still ignore it left and right... Which is driving me crazy! Every day I see landing pages, sales pages, emails that do a great job at appealing to the "Rational brain"... But severely neglect the "Emotional brain". So please understand: people don't buy features and benefits... They buy the HOPE that your product will give them the transformation needed to cure their emotional pains... and fulfill their deepest wants and desires. Once they believe that... THEN you can give them all the features and benefits you want -- but only then 🙂 8 - Most people want fast, simple, cheap Ever wondered why the most successful direct response promotions are always about a product that works super fast... is dead-simple to use... and doesn't cost a lot? It's true... Most people are unwilling to invest time, money, and energy into something that takes a lot of work and promises only long-term results. Again, that's how we're biologically wired... We want instant gratification that increases our chances of survival RIGHT NOW. (and let others worry about things like climate change later) So if you want your marketing to be successful (especially to cold traffic)... you have to make sure you also highlight these things. 9 - The so-called "Curse of Knowledge is REAL This one's pretty simple (but super annoying): The more time and energy you invest into understanding a topic at a high level... The more likely you are to assume that everyone ELSE also understands it at a high level. It happens all the time... People with good intentions try to teach high-level concepts to beginners... only to quickly lose them in a veil of blank stares. DO NOT assume that everyone else knows what you know! You'd be surprised how many people haven't made those connections in their minds yet. So make sure to meet them where they're at and teach them something they can actually use. 10 - Time DOESN'T always = money You've probably heard people say "time is money". And while in *some* cases this might be true... I think it's actually a huge fallacy! In my opinion, in most cases, time is WAY more valuable than money. Why? Because it's the ultimate finite resource. You can always earn more money... get more resources... have more assets... But time? You can never get back lost time. Once it's gone, it's gone. So make sure to try to make the most of it because it's much more precious than most people think! 11 - The best productivity tool I've ever used is... The 33-min Pomodoro Timer. Here's how it works in 3 easy steps: - You set a goal you'd like to accomplish - You set a timer for 33 minutes (or as long as you prefer) - You ONLY work on your goal until the timer hits zero (nothing else -- NO distractions!) I actually first heard about this from a presentation by legendary copywriter Eugene Schwartz... and it totally changed the way I do deep work now. It's super-duper simple... but it works like crazy. If you can have as little as 2-3 of these sessions per day... you can easily achieve more than most people do in 8 hours of "work". Give it a try, really. You'll love it. That's it for now. I don't want to make this email too long... so I'll send you more insights tomorrow. Let me know if you've enjoyed this and whether you'd like to receive more of these "mini-lessons". Your voice matters - and I'm curious what you think 🙂 -Csaba P.S. -- Which insight resonated with you the most and why?
