[Latest Newsletter from GI](     05.12.2018 In addition to covering all of the most important news coming out of the video game industry, we do our best each week to bring you the most informative and entertaining previews, video features, and editorial content you won’t find anywhere else. Here are the biggest stories from the past week:       Top News Stories   [June Cover Revealed – Days Gone]( by Jeff Cork Does the world really need another zombie game? That’s one of the many questions we had before heading to Sony Bend Studio’s offices in Oregon to check out Days Gone. After spending a couple of days playing the game and gaining a deeper understanding of what the studio is trying to accomplish, we came back with an enthusiastic yes. You face a massive undead threat, but they’re just part of the dangerous open-world ecology. Virtually everything in this dark vision of the Pacific Northwest wants to separate you from your life. Fortunately, you have the tools you need to survive – including your fully upgradable motorcycle. ---------------------------------------------------------------   [157 Rapid-Fire Questions About Days Gone]( by Ben Hanson With our new cover story on Days Gone, we hope we answered a lot of your burning questions about Sony Bend's upcoming open-world game. Just in case though, while visiting the studio Game Informer's Jeff Cork sat down with Days Gone's creative director John Garvin and volleyed as many questions as we could think of about the game his way. If you're curious about the game's story, gameplay, or jokes about "freakers", then this video is for you. --------------------------------------------------------------- [How Days Gone Hopes To Win Over Skeptics]( by Ben Hanson When Sony announced Days Gone at their E3 2016 press conference, some people quickly wrote it off as just another open-world zombie game. With our new cover story on the game, we'll be diving deep into the game's features and showing off why you might want to give it a second look. While visiting Sony Bend, we sat down with Days Gone's creative director John Garvin to talk about how the team hopes to win over skeptics and show them that the PlayStation 4 exclusive is an intriguing new experience for players. [Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Review – The Lure Of Exploration]( by Matt Miller A strong setting can do wonders for injecting life into a franchise. The first installment of Pillars of Eternity exhibited impressive writing and gameplay, while maintaining a style of presentation and action inspired by games from almost two decades ago like Baldur’s Gate. The sequel does some small but important things to evolve that traditional approach to RPGs. But it’s the swashbuckling flavor of the Deadfire Archipelago that helps this new project shine, mixing magic, dragons, and mythical gods with pirates, sailing, and a lengthy quest to discover what dangers lurk beyond the horizon. [Watch The First Hour Of Days Gone]( by Ben Hanson With our new cover story on Days Gone, we're diving into details on the upcoming open-world PlayStation 4 exclusive. With this update, we wanted to let viewers get an extensive look at the game for themselves. Thanks to Sony Bend's generosity, we're able to show the absolute beginning of the game. To help guide us through the experience, I'm joined by the game's creative director John Garvin and game director Jeff Ross to talk about the process of bringing the game to life. - - [Visit GameInformer For More]( - [Visit GameInformer For More](       This Week’s Top Ten Must-Read Stories   - [City of Brass Review – Get Rich Or Die Trying]( - [The Swords of Ditto Review – Rise, Fall, And Repeat]( - [Destiny 2 – The Season Two Report Card]( - [Developer Tips For Getting Started In Pillars Of Eternity II: Deadfire]( - [The Quest To Play As Thanos In Fortnite]( - [Five Reasons Sim Fans Should Seek Treatment At Two Point Hospital]( - [Should You Play Middle-earth: Shadow Of War’s Desolation Of Mordor DLC?]( - [New Gameplay Today – Beat Saber]( - [GI Show – Days Gone, Pillars 2, E3's Huge Leak]( - [Blog Herding – The Best Blogs Of The Community (May 10, 2018)]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Still craving the latest news? [Sign up here and get blogging!](   [Far Cry 5 is a Cacophony of Clichés](   The newest Far Cry has a lot of issues according to Refle. I haven't played it yet, but much of what our blogger describes seems to be making the video game airwaves. I think the second game was quite the underrated game, and the third one was really fun in spite of its many character pitfalls. It's too bad 5 seems to have missed becoming something more. [A Gaming Life: Pt. 2 – Ten Games That Changed Me Forever]( While reading this list, it's crazy to see that the writer discovered Xenosaga at 12. Its predecessor, Xenogears, changed my gaming mind when I was 11. This is a really fun, eclectic list full of some great games. [Game Collecting: A Reality]( RezidentHazard takes us through the experience of game collecting, both good and bad. It's expensive and won't make you rich. It's more about loving the item you're acquiring. I've stopped collecting for the most part lately, but will pony up sizeable sacks of rupees for stuff I really want. Sometimes that pans out, sometimes it doesn't. But like RezidentHazard writes, it is crazy how much cheaper collectible gems used to be even three years ago.       This message was intended for subscribers of the GameInformer Online Newsletter only.
