We’ve got to be brutally honest here

We ran the numbers after our end-of-quarter deadline on Monday. We checked the numbers again, because it was a little tough to believe. The long and short of it is that we came short in all three metrics: Number of donors, number of donations, and total dollars raised. We’ve missed goals before, but not like this. And what really makes this time different is that we’ve only got a few weeks to make that gap up. Time is short. But at the end of the day, this is the real problem: We made media reservations based on what we anticipated raising last month, and our projections for these final weeks. If we fell short in September, an official FEC month, that tells us our October projections are off, too. What all of that means is that we have to seriously consider making cuts that will damage our ability to win this race. Before we do, we have to make every effort at narrowing the gap.
