[ [Trade now]( Economic data releases Tuesday, July 13 US: CPI m/m + Core CPI m/m Consumer Price Index m/m measures the change in the price of goods and services purchased by consumers and accounts for a majority of overall inflation. Core CPI m/m excludes food and energy, which are quite volatile factors and tend to distort the underlying trend. Inflation is important to currency valuation because as the prices are rising, central banks are raising interest rates out of respect for their inflation containment mandate. Wednesday, July 14 US: PPI m/m + Fed Chair Jerome Powell testifies The Producer Price Index (also called Finished Goods PPI, Wholesale Prices, PPI for Final Demand) measures the change in the price of finished goods and services sold by producers. The PPI is a leading indicator of consumer inflation (when producers charge more for goods and services, higher costs are usually passed on to the consumer). Powell is to testify on the Semi-Annual Monetary Policy report before the Senate Banking Committee. Central bank heads usually drop some hints on future monetary policy during such testimonies. First, Powell is expected to read a prepared statement, next, the Committee is to hold an unscripted Q&A session; the latter can lead to market volatility. Canada: BOC Monetary Policy Report + BOC Rate Statement + BOC Press Conference The Report provides valuable insight into the bank's view of economic conditions and inflation The Statement is the primary tool the BOC uses to inform investors about monetary policy, and includes clues on future bank’s decisions. During the Press Conference, BOC governor and senior deputy governor read a prepared statement, then answer unscripted press questions, which has the potential to affect the market. Australia: Employment Change + Unemployment Rate Employment Change measures the change in the number of employed people during the previous month. Job creation is an important indicator of consumer spending, which accounts for a majority of overall economic activity. Unemployment Rate measures the percentage of the total work force that is unemployed and actively seeking employment during the previous month. It is an important signal of overall economic health. China: GDP q/y Measures the change in the inflation-adjusted value of all goods and services produced by the economy. The data represents the quarterly value compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Because China is so influential when it comes to the global economy and investor sentiment, this data can have a broad impact on currency markets. Thursday, July 15 UK: BofE Monetary Policy Committee's Michael Saunders speaks Saunders is to speak about the inflation outlook. Audience questions are expected. BofE MPC members vote on setting the key interest rates, and often drop clues regarding future monetary policy. US: Fed Chair Jerome Powell testifies Powell is to testify on the Semi-Annual Monetary Policy report before the Senate Banking Committee. Central bank heads usually drop some hints on future monetary policy during such testimonies. First, Powell is expected to read a prepared statement, next, the Committee is to hold an unscripted Q&A session; the latter can lead to market volatility. Japan: BOJ Outlook report The release time is tentative until the actual rate is announced. The report provides valuable insight into the Bank of Japan’s economic conditions and inflation, the key factors that will shape future monetary policies. Friday, July 16 US: Core Retail Sales m/m + Retail Sales m/m Сore Retail Sales report measures the change in the total value of sales at the retail level, minus automobiles. The Core data is considered to be a better indicator of spending trends since the auto sales component, while accounting for about 20% of retail sales, is too volatile and can distort the overall trend. Retail Sales report measures the change in the total value of sales at the retail level. This is the earliest and broadest look at vital consumer spending data, which accounts for the majority of overall economic activity.
