Hey {NAME},  I’ve noticed a lot of aspiring new freelancers popping up recently.  And part of me wants to support them in their journey. Since I had plenty of people I looked up to when I was just starting out.  But at the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man…  A lot of these aspiring freelancers also seem to have a sense of entitlement — combined with unrealistic expectations.  And I get a little frustrated when a new freelancer comes to me for help…  But then won’t listen when I tell them to start small. Since they expect to make $10,000 per month in their first few months.  For context, [it took me 5 years to have my first $10K month](.  At the same time, I can’t blame these freelancers too much for their entitlement or unrealistic expectations.  Most of them didn’t get these ideas on their own.  These ideas were usually sold to them by deceptive “gurus” preying on their hope for a better financial future.  So I’m here to set the record straight. (And if that means I lose a bunch of subscribers who don’t want to hear the truth, so be it.)  It took me 5 years to build my freelance business on top of my day job before going full time.  That’s half a decade of waking up before the sun to do client work before heading into the office.  Half a decade of taking low- and even some NO-paying clients at first to at least get started.  And half a decade of struggling to figure out how to turn my dreams into a sustainable freelance business.  I don’t think my experience is unique, either.  Most of the successful freelancers I know took a similar path.  So if you’re an aspiring freelancer, here’s the truth few other people have the courage to tell you:  Do NOT expect to build a successful freelance business in a matter of months.  Almost no one can actually pull that off.  Be ready to work for years. And don’t quit your day job until you are bringing in plenty of consistent business on the side.  That’s the path that the most successful freelancers I know follow.  It may not be the sexiest approach. But it’s the most reliable.  And it’s also worth it.  Because when you come out the other side, you will finally be your own boss.  You’ll have the freedom to work when, where, and how you want.  And you’ll never have to answer to an annoying manager or nagging HR department ever again.  Which is well worth the effort it takes to become your own boss if you ask me.  Until next week,  -Brian [Unsubscribe]( | [Edit your details]( Freelance Like A Pro PO Box 281 Bloomingdale New Jersey 07403 United States [Powered By Kartra] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
