how you can avoid this simple mistake I’m back with another cautionary tale for you today, {NAME}.  See, we pay for a routine maintenance plan with our HVAC company.  Which means before each heating and cooling season, they send someone to our house to make sure our HVAC system is in good condition.  And last week, our HVAC company made a simple mistake that cost them a chance to earn ~$1,000 per hour when they came for our appointment ahead of the upcoming heating season.  Here’s what happened…  We need to change the air filters in our HVAC system before each new heating or cooling season.  And changing the filters is also covered under our maintenance plan with the HVAC company.  The only problem is, they do not supply the filters. You have to buy them yourself.  The HVAC company even has a website where you can order the filters through them. (Although it looks like they get drop shipped from a third party.)  But I didn’t realize that we needed to order the filters ahead of time to have them on hand before our appointment.  Which means we didn’t have the filters while the HVAC technician was here last week. So now we’ll have to order the filters and change them ourselves…  And here’s how this cost the HVAC company a chance at ~$1,000 per hour.  The filters cost about $50 each. And we need to replace 2 of them each time. (We have both a primary HVAC system for the majority of the house and a second unit for the loft where the master bedroom is. And each one needs a new filter every season.)  On top of that, my wife and I are both busy business owners. Which means we’re happy to pay a premium when people make our lives easier.  So if the HVAC company had simply offered to charge us ~$100 to bring two filters with them for our last appointment, we almost certainly would have said yes.  Also, changing each of the filters takes like 3 minutes max. So call it 6 minutes total.  That means they could have earned an extra $100 for 6 minutes of work — or $1,000 per hour.  All they had to do was offer to take care of supplying the filters for each visit — and then charge my wife and I accordingly.  But instead, they decided to force us to order and install the filters ourselves.  Which means now we have no reason to order the filters through them. Since it’s not part of our maintenance plan.  And we found a better deal on the filters from another site online.  So not only did our HVAC company lose a chance to make an extra $1,000 per hour from us…  They also just lost our order for new filters. Period.  All because they forced us to do the work — instead of offering to [do it for us]( (and then charging accordingly).  So now ask yourself: where are you missing the chance to provide additional services to your clients — and to charge them accordingly?  Because as you just saw, you can drive a significant increase in your profits by adding seemingly small “extras” to your existing services.  After all, you’re already doing the bulk of the work for the client anyway.  Plus you’ve already put in all the time, energy, and effort it takes to land the client, too.  Which means whatever extra revenue you can add on top of that is almost pure profit.  So make sure you’re always digging for ways you can make incremental, high-profit additions to your services.  Until next week,  -Brian [Unsubscribe]( | [Edit your details]( Freelance Like A Pro PO Box 281 Bloomingdale New Jersey 07403 United States [Powered By Kartra] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
