Friend, Estonia, Taiwan, Cyprus, Chile, and the Czech Republic. All five of these countries have something in common — they are all more economically free than the United States. Worse, the list is actually much longer than these five. Why is that? Many people will say this is too complex to explain, but it’s actually quite simple. Big government, and reckless fiscal policy, is taking a toll on our economy. And instead of cutting spending and sticking to a budget, the plan is to shake taxpayers down for every penny by empowering the IRS with an aggressive $80 BILLION strategy centered on heavier-handed enforcement. My name is Pete Sepp, President of the National Taxpayers Union (NTU), and we are the voice for taxpayers in D.C. Special interests have their lobbyists. But who is working for you, the taxpayer? We are — the National Taxpayers Union. NTU is lobbying lawmakers to change this course of aggressive IRS action, and we need to strike now before Congress becomes further bogged down in political games. That’s why I’ve set a goal to connect with 250 new supporters right now to join thousands of others who are ready to fight for economic freedom in America. [Friend, can you join the fight by sending in $5, $25, $50, or any generous amount today? Click here to become an NTU Supporter ]( Here’s why the $80 BILLION IRS strategy won’t work: For months, NTU warned lawmakers that the IRS wasn’t prepared for the $80 billion influx in funding provided by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). And, to no surprise, we were right. Intended more to hit a revenue score than anything else, it is unsurprising but disappointing that this provision of the IRA. . . . . . gave little to no structural guidance on how the agency should use its new funds … . . . and failed to contain necessary taxpayer protections that have accompanied other landmark IRS reform bills. [Become an NTU Supporter to fight for economic freedom and tax reform today ]( That’s why NTU is working with members of Congress to support the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act. This act, which has passed the House of Representatives, aims to revoke some of the additional IRS funding that Democrats passed as part of their Inflation Reduction Act, and which the agency plans to use for tax enforcement. The Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act represents a step in the right direction by rescinding misguided, excessive appropriations that currently go to enforcement and operations support accounts of the IRS. [I hope I can count on your support, Friend, to help us work with Congress NOW to keep the IRS from targeting hard-working Americans. Click here to rush your support ]( Since 1969, NTU has proudly been a major player in signature taxpayer victories of the past five decades: - We were there when the federal tax code was overhauled under President Reagan in 1986. - We championed the cause for a “Taxpayer Bill of Rights” in the late 80s and 90s and with follow-on legislation, the 2019 Taxpayer First Act. - In 2017, NTU was the driving force behind the successful push for comprehensive tax reform. - In 2020, our public education arm launched the Taxpayer Defense Center to fight for taxpayers in court. TDC has already helped to hand the IRS major defeats in the Supreme Court. But this all happened because of people like you who supported our mission. Your donation will help us keep the government’s hand from reaching even further into the taxpayers' pocket and work towards making America more economically free. Friend, can you help me reach my goal of connecting with 250 new supporters by clicking any link below?
