Feel free to forward along if the spirit moves you. â This edition is brought to you by [Eight Sleep](=). Be sure to see their offer in the P.S. â
What Iâm wearing â[Glerups](. Many of you asked about the shoes Iâm wearing in [this photo](=). In the colder months, I wear Glerups indoors effectively 100% of the time. I love them. â
What Iâm listening to â[Burn](â ([YouTube](, [Spotify](=), [Apple Music]()) by [Ellie Goulding](=). This has become one of my go-to feel-good tracks. Itâs perfect for first thing in the morning or at 5 p.m. after too many video calls have chewed on your soul. â
Summer destinations Iâm considering ââ[The 24 Best Places to Go in 2024]()â If you have any clear favorites, [please let me know on Twitter @tferriss](=)! Iâll start referring to it as âXâ in 2030. â
What Iâm reading â[String Theory: David Foster Wallace on Tennis](=). âFederer Both Flesh and Notâ is considered one of Wallaceâs best essays, and it doesnât disappoint. Iâm not a tennis player, and that didnât affect my enjoyment of this writing one iota. The essay was first published in The New York Times as â[Federer as Religious Experience](â in 2006.
â
Here are two excerpts to give you a taste:
â
âThere are three kinds of valid explanation for Federerâs ascendancy. One kind involves mystery and metaphysics and is, I think, closest to the real truth. The others are more technical and make for better journalism.
â
The metaphysical explanation is that Roger Federer is one of those rare, preternatural athletes who appear to be exempt, at least in part, from certain physical laws. Good analogs here include Michael Jordan, who could not only jump inhumanly high but actually hang there a beat or two longer than gravity allows, and Muhammad Ali, who really could âfloatâ across the canvas and land two or three jabs in the clock-time required for one. There are probably a half-dozen other examples since 1960. And Roger Federer is of this typeâa type that one could call genius, or mutant, or avatar.
ââ
[...]
ââ
In 2006, though, itâs fair to ask why this kind of talent still matters so much. Recall what is true about dogma and Wimbledonâs sign. Kinesthetic virtuoso or no, Roger Federer is now dominating the largest, strongest, fittest, best-trained and -coached field of male pros whoâve ever existed, with everyone using a kind of nuclear racket thatâs said to have made the finer calibrations of kinesthetic sense irrelevant, like trying to whistle Mozart during a Metallica concert.
â
âThanks to [David Perell]() for the recommendation! He mentioned this after [our interview in his studio](=). â
Poem Iâm pondering, bolding mine behind the pain
someone is rejoicing
â
behind the torture
there is love
â
whoâs going to buy
this bullshit
â
âif you donât become the ocean
youâll be seasick
every day

How do you interpret the bolded part? Hereâs one friendâs take: âIf you expand and become a large enough container, the little ripples that are so easy to complain aboutâthat affect youâwonât bother you anymore. Just ripples in the ocean.â --------------------------------------------------------------- You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with [my recent interview](=) with Deep Work author Cal Newport, [the latest episode]( (âHow to Start a Businessâ) from The Tim Ferriss Experiment, and [my conversation](=) with the co-founder of string field theory Michio Kaku.
â
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just [send a tweet to @tferriss](=) and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
â
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
â
Much love to you and yours,
