Book Iâm reading â[From Strength to Strength: Finding Success, Happiness, and Deep Purpose in the Second Half of Life]() by [Arthur Brooks](=) ([@arthurbrooks]()). Thank you to [Peter Attia, MD](=) ([@PeterAttiaMD]() for the recommendation. From the description: âMany of us assume that the more successful we are, the less susceptible we become to the sense of professional and social irrelevance that often accompanies aging. But the truth is, the greater our achievements and our attachment to them, the more we notice our decline, and the more painful it is when it occurs. What can we do, starting now, to make our older years a time of happiness, purpose, and yes, success? At the height of his career at the age of 50, Arthur Brooks embarked on a seven-year journey to discover how to transform his future from one of disappointment over waning abilities into an opportunity for progress. From Strength to Strength is the result, a practical roadmap for the rest of your life.â Some chapters resonated more for me than others, but I found the combination of deeply personal stories, profiles of some of historyâs greats (e.g., [Bach](), and overall reframing to be very timely. Chances are that you donât want to beâor canât physically beâin hyperspeed sixth gear your entire life, so what do you do when you want to change goals and shift gears? This book might help with answers. â
Heated insoles Iâm wearing for skiing â[Therm-ic C-Pack 1300 Bluetooth with Heat Kit](). This is a heated boot system that has been a lifesaver for my toes on cold days. Note that I would likely buy [the 1700 version]() next time to have a longer battery life, but these less expensive 1300s are great for sessions of six hours or less. This system has three heating intensities, and a roughly six-hour session is using the second, middle intensity. If you keep it on the lowest setting, I think itâs fair to assume you could get 10 hours, but I have Raynaudâs disease, and my toes get abnormally cold. Another tip that is counterintuitive: thin socks can often make your feet feel warmer. If your ski boots are tight, and thicker socks make them tighter, you can impede blood flow and make those little piglets even more frigid. â

P.S. Deal of the Week â [REST by Protekt](), the liquid sleep supplement thatâs a staple in my toolkit. I was introduced to [Protekt REST]() by former Navy SEAL Nick Norris after I mentioned I was avoiding melatonin due to next-day sluggishness and its possible effects on testicular function. Protektâs zero-calorie REST supplement helps support consistent, restful sleep without groggy side effects. Simply add it to your last glass of water before bed, and off you go. For me, itâs a gentle assist rather than a punch in the brain. Restorative sleep is one of the most effective ways to improve performance, and yet, at least 1/3 of Americans suffer from chronic poor sleep. REST uses a mix of L-theanine and GABA to promote relaxation, which are combined with valerian root, a natural aid that has been used for thousands of years for sleep. All of Protektâs liquid supplements are plant-based, lab-tested, and made in the USA with no added sugars, artificial sweeteners, or artificial ingredients. An exclusive offer for 5-Bullet Friday readers: [Try Protekt REST and get 30% off any REST product while supplies last]()! The early bird gets the worm, as REST sold out in less than 3 days the last time I featured it in this newsletter. â Forwarded this message? [Sign up here](). Join millions of monthly readers.
