[5-Bullet Friday](=) Hi All! Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what Iâm pondering and exploring. What Iâm watching â[The River Runner]() ([Netflix](), [Amazon](=), [more options](). This jumped to the top of my to-watch list, thanks to [Brad Ludden]() of [First Descents](), a world-class waterman in his own right and associate producer on this film. [Hereâs the trailer](=). Kudos to director [Rush Sturges](=) ([@rushsturges]()), writers [Thayer Walker]( ([@inkdwell](), [Corinna Halloran](=) ([@corinnahalloran]()), and the whole team. This Outside feature by Thayer and [Scott Lindgren](), the documentaryâs protagonist, became a model for the film: â[After a Hard Diagnosis, One Athlete Learns to Soften Up](=).â
Short article Iâm reading â â[Essential Life-Learnings from 14 Years of Brain Pickings](â by [Maria Popova]() ([@brainpicker](=)). The key takeaway is so important and yet so easy to forget. I read this twice in the past week. What Iâm listening to ââ[Mangaliso](=)â ([YouTube](=), [Spotify]()) by [Bongeziwe Mabandla]( ([@Bongeziwe]()). Book Iâm revisiting â[The Lessons of History](=) by Will and Ariel Durant. This short and powerful book was first recommended to me by [investor Ray Dalio](. At fewer than 150 pages, it can be digested in a few sittings and offers an impressive overview of human nature and the rise and fall of civilizations. The prose is also beautiful. Hereâs the official book description: âA concise survey of the culture and civilization of mankind, The Lessons of History is the result of a lifetime of research from Pulitzer Prizeâwinning historians Will and Ariel Durant. With their accessible compendium of philosophy and social progress, the Durants take us on a journey through history, exploring the possibilities and limitations of humanity over time.âQuote Iâm pondering â âGood writing is always about things that are important to you, things that are scary to you, things that eat you up. But the writing is a way of not allowing those things to destroy you.ââ [John Edgar Wideman](And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just [send a tweet to @tferriss](=) and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.Have a wonderful weekend, all.Much love to you and yours,TimP.S. Deal of the Week â [Eight Sleep Pod Pro Cover](. Good sleep is one of the keys to unlocking your maximum potential. More than 30% of Americans struggle with sleep, and Iâm a member of that sad group. Temperature is one of the main causes of poor sleep, and heat is my nemesis. Iâve suffered for decades, tossing and turning, throwing blankets off, pulling them back on, and repeating ad nauseam. Now, thereâs a simple way to sleep at the perfect temperature, and itâs a device I use myselfâthe [Pod Pro Cover by Eight Sleep](. It pairs dynamic cooling and heating with biometric tracking to offer the most advanced (and user-friendly) solution on the market. Iâve been using it for more than a year. Add the [Pod Pro Cover]( to your current mattress and start sleeping as cool as 55°F or as hot as 110°F. It also splits your bed in half, so your partner can choose a totally different temp. The technology adjusts the temperature of each side of the bed based on your sleep stages, biometrics, and bedroom temperature, reacting intelligently to create the optimal sleeping environment. The result: [Eight Sleep]( users fall asleep up to 32% faster, reduce sleep interruptions by up to 40%, and get more restful sleep overall. [For a limited time, subscribers to 5-Bullet Friday can get $250 off(!) of the Pod Pro Cover](.
