[5-Bullet Friday](=)
---------------------------------------------------------------
Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of â5-Bullet Friday,â a list of what Iâm enjoying or pondering. This has been a busy week, so Iâm throwing in a few bonus bullets...
What Iâm excited to support with a matching grant of $100,000 â [Frontline Responders Fund â Getting critical supplies to frontline responders combating COVID-19](). Many of you have asked how you can help, and hundreds of organizations have reached out to me with ideas, pitches, and campaigns. Almost none of them make the cut. This one does, and I trust several names involved. To add some spice and put my money where my mouth is, I will match up to $100,000 of your collective donations. In other words, if you all donate $100K together, Iâll match it with another $100K of my own. So that we can track things for my matching, [simply click âDonate nowâ]() and then make sure to select âTim Ferrissâ in the âReferred by: Select Team Memberâ dropdown. The scrolling feature in the dropdown might not be immediately visible, but it is there. For large donations ($10,000+), please reach out to [info@cafamerica.org](), mention Frontline Responders Fund, and tell them that Tim Ferriss sent you. I strongly recommend that you [consider donating](). If you are lucky enough to be healthy and reading this, you likely owe some thanks to healthcare workers. They are the invisible safety net for us all, and they are our front line of defense against COVID-19. The deadline for my match is Tuesday (April 14) at 11:59 PM PT, so [please take a look]().
Song Iâm enjoying â [Chancha Via Circuito - Jardines ft. Lido Pimienta](=) ([@chanchaviacircuito]()).
Podcast Iâm listening to â [Stephen Wolfram on Guy Kawasakiâs Remarkable People podcast](=). I have met Stephen only once, but his breadth of knowledge blew my mind. Iâve been waiting for a podcast episode like this ever since. Hereâs the official description from Guy Kawasaki ([@GuyKawasaki](=)): âHave you ever wondered what itâs like to get a PhD in Physics at 20 and win a MacArthur [âGenius Grantâ] Award at 21? Youâll get to find out with this episodeâs interview of Remarkable People with Stephen Wolfram. Saying he is a âphysicistâ is like saying LeBron James is a âbasketball player.â If youâre a math geek, youâve probably used a product he created called Mathematica. Heâs also built a knowledge engine called Wolfram Alpha that you have used in Siri, Alexa, Bing, or DuckDuckGo.â Listen to the interview [on Apple Podcasts](, [Spotify](=), or wherever you get your podcasts. Iâve previously recommended [this post on personal productivity systems](=) from Stephen, which is still worth checking out.
What Iâm rereading ââ[The Risk of Discovery]()â essay by Paul Graham ([@paulg](=)), which is only a few paragraphs long. Itâs worth rereading a few times.
Something Iâm watching closely and sharing widely â [Fast Grants](). This launched just days ago, and it appears to offer the fastest science grants in modern history. From the website: âIf you are a scientist at an academic institution currently working on a COVID-19 related project and in need of funding, we invite you to apply for a Fast Grant. Fast Grants are $10k to $500k, and decisions are made in under 48 hours.â Please forward this to any scientists who might be interested. The grants are currently supported by John Collison ([@collision]()), Patrick Collison ([@patrickc]()), Paul Graham ([@paulg](=)), Reid Hoffman ([@reidhoffman](=)), Fiona McKean ([@FionaMcK](=)) and Tobias Lütke ([@tobi](), Yuri ([@yurimilner]() and Julia Milner, and Chris and Crystal Sacca ([@sacca](=) and [@crystale](=)). Iâm thrilled to see a bunch of past podcast guests and friends on this list. Huge kudos to all of them. For those interested in my past interviews with the gang, hereâs the list, in the order they appeared: â[Chris Sacca on Being Different and Making Billions](),â â[The Oracle of Silicon Valley, Reid Hoffman](),â â[Patrick Collison â CEO of Stripe](=),â and â[Tobi Lütke â From Snowboard Shop to Billion-Dollar Company](.â
What Iâve been eagerly preparing for you â 138 signed copies of Michael Pollanâs [How to Change Your Mind](=)!!! This is one of my favorite books of the past five years, and I give copies to all of my friends when they visit. I have shelves full of copies. AND NOW... Michael Pollan ([@michaelpollan]() has been kind enough to sign 138 of themâwhat I had on hand at my houseâso that I can mail them out as surprise gifts! Thank you, Michael! To throw your hat in the ring, please fill out [this form]() by 11:59 PM PT on Tuesday, and my team will select 138 folks at random as lucky winners. If you donât win, I still strongly encourage you to listen to [my first interview with Michael]() and consider [getting a copy](=).
Quote Iâm pondering â âAfter tragedies, one has to invent a new world, knit it or embroider, make it up. Itâs not gonna be given to you because you deserve it; it doesnât work that way. You have to imagine something that doesnât exist and dig a cave into the future and demand space. Itâs a territorial hope affair. At the time, that digging is utopian, but in the future, it will become your reality.ââ [Björk](=)
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Let me know! Just [send a tweet to @tferriss](=) and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all!
Tim
