URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Stop Formosa Plastics expansion in Texas to protect the fragile Matagorda Bay

URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Stop Formosa Plastics expansion in Texas to protect the fragile Matagorda Bay ecosystem! >> [Sign the petition now!]( Picture this: seabirds soaring over wetlands and tidal marshes. Fishing boats glide through open water, bringing the day’s catch back home. This is Matagorda Bay – home to a variety of wildlife, including fish that local Texas communities depend on for their livelihoods. But just a few years ago, a Formosa Plastics plant in Texas illegally released BILLIONS of plastic pellets into local waterways. And since June 2021, the facility has been tested three times per week, each test confirming ONGOING VIOLATIONS! The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has issued a draft permit paving the way for expansion of the Formosa Plastics plant, further threatening local communities and Matagorda Bay! But there’s still time left to submit comments and STOP the permit! [Please, Friend, stand up to greedy Formosa Plastics and help SAVE Matagorda Bay!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( If approved, the permit would allow the construction of a reservoir on Formosa Plastics property. What does that actually mean? Well, it would DIVERT FRESHWATER from the Lavaca River that flows into Matagorda Bay, making the bay saltier and harming the ecology and wildlife on which many local economies depend. YOUR comment could make all the difference, Friend. If we flood the Texas CEQ office, we could help stop the expansion of the onslaught of plastics pollution in Texas and its waterways. But we need your help RIGHT NOW to do that! [Tell the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to DENY the permit for construction on Formosa Plastics property! We need 4,372 more signatures by 11:59pm TONIGHT to meet our goal!]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Standing with you, Paloma Henriques Senior Petrochemical Campaigner, Friends of the Earth Contact Us: Friends of the Earth U.S. Washington, D.C. | Berkeley, CA 1-877-843-8687 [Contact us](foe.org/about-us/contact/) Email Preferences: [Click here to unsubscribe]( Learn more: www.foe.org/news www.foe.org/about-us www.foeaction.org Connect: [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Flickr]( © 2021, Friends of the Earth.
