Factory farming is dangerous for animals, public health, and the planet — and your tax dollars

Factory farming is dangerous for animals, public health, and the planet — and your tax dollars are funding it! [Take action now >>]( 1.7 billion animals are raised on U.S. factory farms every year. Yes, you read that right Friend. And these innocent animals on factory farms are being subjected to unthinkable cruelty. Many are deprived of sunlight and fresh air while being CRAMMED into crowded spaces. Mother pigs in tight pens, unable to turn around. Hens in cages so small, they can’t even spread their wings. You can only imagine how filthy these factory farms are. In fact, the U.S. alone is home to 24 thousand factory farms, and the waste that these farms produce together is equivalent to 940 billion pounds of manure each year — TWICE as much as the sewage produced by the entire U.S. population. This concentration of waste does not only pose a risk to animal health but to people like you and me. Big Meat and Dairy is raking in profits while selling lies and misinformation to the public about its cruel practices. These corporations want the public to believe that animals on factory farms are being treated humanely, in safe, sanitary conditions. But that couldn't be further from the truth. The USDA actually supports some of the worst Big Meat and Dairy corporations with taxpayer-supported funding as well as government food purchases. We cannot continue allowing factory farming to inflict so much damage on animals, public health, and the planet. [Will you add your name NOW to tell the USDA to END its support for the factory farming industry before it wreaks havoc on our climate and more animals suffer?]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Industrial-scale factory farms are disproportionately located in low-income communities and communities of color who already bear the brunt of the climate crisis. These massive factory farms make things even worse by emitting colossal amounts of toxic waste that pollute the local food, water, and air. Factory farming hurts the people employed in the industry, too. Farmers are trapped in exploitive contracts with massive corporations like Tyson Foods and JBS. And workers in meatpacking plants face dangerous working conditions -- from a lack of protection from COVID to pressure to process meat at ever-faster speeds. That means higher likelihood of illness and injuries like lacerations. All in order to increase the companies’ profits. The entire business model of mega meat corporations is based on keeping their costs as low as possible through poor working conditions and unsustainable practices that drive us closer to climate catastrophe. And our government allows them to keep lining their pockets rather than protect the health of people, animals, and our planet. [That’s why we’re calling on Friends of the Earth members like you to take action against corporate destruction. Will you stand with us and the planet by signing our petition before our 11:59pm deadline TONIGHT? >>]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thank you for taking action for animals, people, and the planet.
