In a huge win after years of advocacy by our campaigners and Members, Kroger became the latest major U.S. grocer to announce commitments aimed at reducing the use of toxic pesticides. - In New York, we successfully aided in the passage of the Birds and Bees Protection Act -- the strongest bill in the nation aimed at protecting people and pollinators from toxic neonic pesticides. Governor Hochul signed this bill into law in early 2024. - Friends of the Earth has made stunning progress towards shifting away from another bee-killing pesticide. Thanks to the efforts of Friends of the Earth and our coalition, Connecticut’s governor signed a bill banning this brain-damaging pesticide on golf courses and in other turf, lawn and ornamental settings, closing a loophole that still allows its use in communities. We will continue to work to get this and other people- and pollinator-harming pesticides out of our food system and communities. These were hard-fought, groundbreaking achievements against powerful foes. They required Friends of the Earth’s special brand of uncompromising tenacity and attention to detail. And we successfully pushed the EPA to regulate aircraft lead pollution, the largest source of airborne lead emissions in the country.
