Then, an official report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirms that at least 500 manatees perished in 2023! These gentle sea cows are dying at an alarming rate, and toxic pollution from the cruise industry contributes to this tragedy. Why are manatee deaths spiking? Theyâre suffering from painful starvation because the seagrass they depend on is being destroyed by pollution-fed algae blooms and rising ocean temperatures. And mega-polluting industries like Big Cruise are worsening this problem every day. When cruise ships sail close to shore, they disturb manatees' fragile habitat, churn up sand and sedimented pollution and are allowed to dump massive quantities of filthy, contaminated wastewater into their feeding grounds. Even worse, cruise ships emit TONS of CO2 into our atmosphere which leads to warmer ocean waters and seagrass death! That means manatees are being left to choke to death from lack of oxygen and wither away from starvation. And unless we act to stop cruise companies from destroying their habitat, manatee populations could drop to the brink of EXTINCTION â fast. These sweet, slow-moving manatees donât deserve to suffer and die like this, friend. We can still protect them before itâs too late, but we need more people with us to take on Big Cruise and stop toxic pollution in our oceans and waterways.
