Friend, We'll cut right to it. We fell short of our crucial World Whale Day goal. But we can't afford to give up on our efforts to protect the last 75 Southern Resident orcas, so there's no other choice: We extended our goal until midnight TONIGHT to fight back against Big Oil, save orcas, and protect our Earth! [RUSH A GIFT]( The remaining Southern Resident orcas are struggling to survive. The most recent baby orca born over Christmas has likely passed away after just one month on this planet. And orcas feel every loss in their family deeply – leaving them grieving and pushing them further into starvation. Now, Big Oil and Big Shipping’s projects threaten to seal their death sentence. The Roberts Bank T2 shipping terminal would bring constant and distracting noise pollution into orca habitat. The thing is, orcas rely on sonar to navigate and communicate with one another. The ever-growing noise in the ocean would drown out these signals and leave orcas helpless -- unable to find their family members and already scarce food sources, and avoid deadly ship collisions. If that wasn't enough, Big Oil is trying to EXPAND the Trans Mountain Pipeline to carry millions more barrels per day of the world's dirtiest tar sand oil through the ocean and prime orca habitat. We know that more oil transportation means a higher risk of an oil spill – which would be DEADLY for orcas. The fumes alone could knock out and drown a full-grown whale! Not to mention, the contamination from an oil spill could lead to more baby orca deaths and miscarriages. These precious whales’ lives are hanging by a thread. And Big Oil’s plans are poised to push them to total EXTINCTION. Beyond that, the ripple effects of Big Shipping and Big Oil's decisions today will cause irreversible damage to the fragile ocean ecosystems that support so much life on our planet. The impacts would reach nearby communities that rely on these waters for food, livelihood, and tourism. We don't have a second to waste -- so please, before our goal extension expires at MIDNIGHT TONIGHT: [Will you make a $27 membership donation right now to protect ocean habitats, help suffering species recover, and ensure our communities and planet thrive?]( If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Donate $27 immediately]( [Donate $50 immediately]( [Donate $100 immediately]( [Donate another amount]( Thank you for your support, Marcie Keever Oceans & vessels program director, Friends of the Earth Contact Us: Friends of the Earth U.S. Washington, D.C. | Berkeley, CA 1-877-843-8687 [Contact us]( Email Preferences: [Click here to unsubscribe]( Learn more: www.foe.org/news www.foe.org/about-us www.foeaction.org Connect: [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Flickr]( © 2023, Friends of the Earth.
