BREAKING: A baby sea turtle in Florida named Gingerbread DIED with 24 pieces of plastic inside its tiny body, and scientists are continuing to raise the alarm on plastic pollution that’s destroying our precious oceans and killing helpless marine animals. [Take action now >>]( Gingerbread only weighed about as much as a carrot when the poor creature died with 24 pieces of plastic crammed inside its tiny, fragile body. Studies of similar hatchlings off the coast of Florida have found that more than 90% of baby turtles have consumed plastic. It takes just ONE single piece of plastic to KILL a baby turtle. Meanwhile, an entire garbage truck’s worth of plastic makes its way into the sea every minute. Innocent animals like baby sea turtles often mistake plastic for food, leading them to CHOKE AND DIE on the debris. Plastic isn’t biodegradable, so it NEVER disappears— meaning that some of the plastic floating around the ocean has been there for over 100 years. And the longer the plastic has remained in the water, the more it smells like the food that these innocent animals would normally eat. If plastic pollution continues at this rate, experts predict that we’ll have more plastic than fish in the sea by 2050 — which could make it virtually impossible for baby sea turtles to tell the difference between deadly plastic and food. [Please, Friend, we’re running out of time to save our oceans from plastics. Won’t you speak up now and take action?]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Big Plastic is one of the worst perpetrators of environmental havoc. Burning through TONS of fossil fuels during production, industrial-size plastic factories release tons of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere. This is not only contributing to global warming but harming the health of nearby residents who are often low-wealth and/or communities of color. Plastic pollution affects us all, Friend. It is so invasive that it does not only show up in our food and water, but researchers have detected microplastics in breastmilk! This means unborn babies and infants aren’t safe from chemical contaminants caused by plastic pollution. Plastics are destroying the Earth, and this PLASTIC APOCALYPSE will have devastating consequences for our planet and all its living beings. If we’re going to stop the plastic industry’s corporate pollution from hurting people, sea turtles, and the planet, then we need bold action from the federal government. That’s why we’re calling on 4,509 more environmentalists like you to join us by 11:59 P.M. TONIGHT in demanding that the Biden Administration takes urgent action NOW to address the plastic pollution crisis. [Will you add your name right away before it’s too late to stop the PLASTIC APOCALYPSE from decimating our planet?]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thank you for taking action to save our oceans, Friends of the Earth Contact Us: Friends of the Earth U.S. Washington, D.C. | Berkeley, CA 1-877-843-8687 [Contact us](foe.org/about-us/contact/) Email Preferences: [Click here to unsubscribe]( Learn more: www.foe.org/news www.foe.org/about-us www.foeaction.org Connect: [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Flickr]( © 2021, Friends of the Earth.
