We thought some monarch populations were starting to recover. But just last year, we learned that the presence of Eastern monarch butterflies in their wintering grounds DROPPED 22%! These are serious findings. Monarch butterflies are at risk of extinction. Some estimates show population declines of up to 95% since the 1990s. A key factor in these declines is toxic pesticides like Bayer-Monsanto's Roundup. [Help fight back against Bayer-Monsanto and protect monarchs before we lose them forever! We need at least 8 people from your area to make a $27 contribution before midnight tonight if we are going to make a difference for monarchs and our planet -- make your gift today!]( Monarchs' migration patterns are uniquely impressive. They travel around 3,000 miles every year, providing invaluable pollination along the way. But in the last few decades, the use of herbicides like Roundup has grown dramatically. Roundup is killing off the only food monarch caterpillars depend on -- milkweed plants. Without milkweed, it is nearly impossible for monarch young to hatch and survive. But Bayer-Monsanto continues to mercilessly put its profits from Roundup over pollinators, people, and the planet. Friends of the Earth Action is doing everything in our power to protect our ecosystems from toxic pesticides and protect our planet, but we need your support if we’re going to make an impact. Don't let the pesticide industry drive monarchs to extinction: Donate $27 today to fight for their future and the planet. If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Donate $27 immediately]( [Donate $50 immediately]( [Donate $100 immediately]( [Donate another amount]( The monarch butterfly's incredible migration can span hundreds to thousands of miles. Yet each generation of these incredible butterflies knows its destination thanks to an internal "compass" it follows. But pesticide companies like Bayer-Monsanto seem to lack a moral compass. They continue to sell glyphosate, the key ingredient in Roundup, no matter the cost to our planet and these unique pollinators. The use of Bayer-Monsanto's Roundup increased by over 2,600% from 1987 to 2016. This toxic weedkiller has virtually wiped out milkweed -- the only food source for young monarchs -- across the U.S. And to make matters worse, a recent study highlighted a frightening fact: every single sample of milkweed collected was contaminated with pesticides -- one-third with levels deadly to monarchs. Young monarchs are hatching on toxic pesticide-riddled milkweed; their first meal may be their last. The dangers don't end there, Friend. Glyphosate is a probable carcinogen. It’s also associated with reproductive harm in humans, along with disruption of the gut microbiome, kidney toxicity, and fatty liver disease. Farmers and homeowners are suing Bayer-Monsanto due to high rates of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma linked to the Roundup they've used on their farms and lawns. Roundup is causing extensive harm that must be stopped before the damage to people and our environment is irreversible. Help us fight back against Bayer-Monsanto and protect our planet by making your $27 gift today. If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Donate $27 immediately]( [Donate $50 immediately]( [Donate $100 immediately]( [Donate another amount]( The profit of companies like Bayer-Monsanto shouldn’t come at the expense of our health and our planet. The stakes are too high to wait a minute more to take action. Young monarchs are eating milkweed contaminated with insecticides and dying. Meanwhile, monarchs are running out of places to lay their eggs in the first place. Monarch populations are in freefall -- the time to act is now, while there are still monarchs left to save. At Friends of the Earth, we are pushing Bayer-Monsanto to stop producing Roundup, pressuring garden retailers to stop selling toxic products like Roundup in their stores, and encouraging supermarkets to increase their offerings of glyphosate-free organic food. Friend, we need you by our side as we ramp up our efforts to save monarchs from extinction and protect our planet. As pesticide use continues to grow, we may be seeing fewer and fewer monarchs making their epic journey. And we could be one of the last generations to know the joy of seeing a monarch on a sunny day. Will you be one of the 8 people in your area today that will help us fight to protect monarchs and our planet from toxic pesticides with your membership gift of $27 or more? Help us fight back against corporate greed and the toxic pesticides driving monarchs toward extinction and wreaking havoc on our planet. Rush your $27 gift today.
