Polar bear cubs stumble across the thin, fragile ice in the Arctic. They’re hungry and weak, searching for food and a new home. Their hunting grounds are MELTING and if they do not find food and safety soon, they will either DROWN from collapsing ice beds or die of STARVATION. Friend, time is running out for our precious polar bears. With the Arctic warming up FOUR TIMES as fast as the rest of the planet, we must combat the climate crisis now more than ever! Polar bears and other Arctic wildlife are watching their ice habitat melt away so rapidly that experts believe the entire Arctic region could be ice-free by 2050! As we bear witness to the effects of human-driven climate change, Big Oil and Gas continue to destroy the delicate lands of the Arctic with oil drilling and fracking all for the sake of profit. Dirty industrial-sized machinery invade crystal white slopes — dumping harmful waste, bringing intolerable noise pollution, and churning harmful POLLUTANTS and TOXINS into the atmosphere and sensitive waters. All the while nearby residents suffer from the inevitable consequences, including the risk of serious health concerns. [We MUST demand federal action if we’re going to STOP the fossil fuel industry from DECIMATING the Arctic — so we’re urgently calling on 4,827 more activists to sign our Arctic Drilling Petition today before the 11:59 P.M. deadline. Will you speak up and add your name now while there’s still time?]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( The survival of vulnerable Arctic species isn’t just critical for biodiversity and the environment but for local Indigenous tribes who rely on a healthy Arctic ecosystem for their way of life. Arctic drilling goes against protections listed under the National Environmental Policy Act  (NEPA) — a law that requires federal agencies to assess the environmental effects of any proposed actions. This includes an evaluation of any related social and economic impacts on nearby residents, like the Indigenous communities in the Arctic. Drilling in Arctic waters is a risk we cannot afford. Unpredictable conditions mean high risks of a catastrophic oil spill. Toxic substances could CONTAMINATE and DESTROY the land, food, and water sources that wildlife and nearby residents rely on. For as long as oil drilling continues, the chances for a tragedy to occur can only become more likely! The entire Arctic is under attack by the fossil fuel industry.  And without stronger protections at the federal level, money-hungry Big Oil companies will continue recklessly drilling and fracking until there’s nothing left. Friend, it’s going to take PEOPLE POWER to save people, polar bears, and the planet from corporate greed and we got a lot of it.  [SIGN NOW to tell President Biden to oppose oil and gas development in the Arctic immediately! >>]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Thanks for taking action, Friends of the Earth Contact Us: Friends of the Earth U.S. Washington, D.C. | Berkeley, CA 1-877-843-8687 [Contact us](foe.org/about-us/contact/) Email Preferences: [Click here to unsubscribe]( Learn more: www.foe.org/news www.foe.org/about-us www.foeaction.org Connect: [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Flickr]( © 2021, Friends of the Earth.
