It takes just one bullet to kill a mama bear looking for food for her hungry cubs. One bullet to leave her cubs orphaned, starving and unable to fight off predators or the winter cold. One bullet to completely decimate an entire bear family. Our country’s bears are under attack -- as they prepare for hibernation, this winter could be their last thanks to trophy hunters and their Big Polluter allies. [Protect vulnerable wildlife, their habitats, and our planet, and make a tax-deductible $27 contribution to Friends of the Earth today! When you do, a generous group of donors willl match every gift, up to our $850,000 goal -- but only until midnight TOMORROW -- so don’t wait another minute!]( Maryland already DOUBLED the bear slaughter last year, killing 103 black bears in the state. And in New Jersey, 105 black bears were killed on just the FIRST DAY of their hunting season. But clearly, this is not enough for trophy hunters -- they want to push the massacre to new heights. Trophy hunters in the Northern Rockies are chomping at the bit to remove ESA protections for iconic grizzly bears. We saw the carnage that happened when the Trump administration temporarily delisted grizzly bears – and now hunters can’t get enough. They’ve made numerous attempts to delist them again in hopes of ruthlessly murdering them during the hunting season, and they show no signs of stopping. We need to act fast: grizzlies – both cubs and adults – could be in the crosshairs next. Protect vulnerable species and our planet with a $27 donation today, which will have double the impact! If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Donate $27 immediately]( [Donate $50 immediately]( [Donate $100 immediately]( [Donate another amount]( If delisted, grizzlies could be treated as horribly as vulnerable wolves currently are – with states like Wyoming allowing a shoot-on-sight approach across the state. In 2021, Idaho Fish and Game found a female grizzly with 12 BULLETS in her. She was shot an estimated 40 TIMES. This is the level of ferocity grizzly bears are facing without strengthened ESA protections. And grizzly bears are coming dangerously close to being caught in the crosshairs during the next hunt -- we can’t let it come to that. A top predator, grizzlies play a pivotal role in keeping our ecosystem healthy and in balance. Standing up to eight feet tall and weighing in at up to 800 pounds, these intelligent omnivores enhance biodiversity, enrich soils, regulate prey populations, and transport nutrients through different ecosystems as they roam far and wide. Scientists are continuously discovering more and more ways grizzlies play a pivotal role in the ecosystems they inhabit. Today, grizzly bears are struggling to survive. Their populations outside Alaska have plummeted to a mere 2% of their historic population. Fewer and fewer cubs are surviving to reach adulthood, and those bears that do are dying more quickly because of rapid changes -- from a shifting food supply to being forced to hibernate later and later in the fall. Fewer than 2,000 grizzlies remain in the lower 48 states -- and about 700 of those call the Greater Yellowstone area home. Now, grizzlies are under attack by the trophy hunting lobby looking to add them to their list of kills. The lobby is partnering with big oil, logging, and mining companies looking to weaken protections on the public lands that these bears call home to make a profit. They are permanently destroying these wildlife habitats for drilling, logging, and mining. Protect vulnerable wildlife from trophy hunters and Big Polluters. Rush your $27 tax-deductible donation before this matching gift opportunity expires. If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Donate $27 immediately]( [Donate $50 immediately]( [Donate $100 immediately]( [Donate another amount]( The Endangered Species Act provides critical protection for America’s iconic animal species. It is also one of our most effective safeguards in the fight to protect our public lands from Big Polluters who are looking to take over habitats in order to mine, log, or build factory farms. But we are facing profit-hungry corporations who are looking to weaken the ESA for their own interests, so we need you by our side as we fight back with everything we can. For the sake of our wildlife and for the sake of our planet, we can’t let Big Polluters and their cronies in Congress destroy our public lands and wipe out our endangered species. At Friends of the Earth, we are using every tool available to protect endangered species and our planet -- not Big Industry’s profits. We know how to fight and win, and that’s exactly what we plan to do. We all need to raise our voices in defense of vulnerable species and our planet. Together, we have the power to make change. Make your $27 tax-deductible membership contribution now, before it’s too late and our matching gift opportunity expires! Join the fight to threatened wildlife, the lands they roam, and our planet.
