[READ MORE]( Avi Kwa Ame, also known as Spirit Mountain, is considered sacred by 10 Yuman-speaking tribes and is a culturally important landmark for Mojave and Sothern Paiute people. It provides habitat for many species found nowhere else on Earth. But the threat of development would destroy the landscape and harm these communities. Supporters like you refused to sit back and watch this threat become a reality. You amplified the voices of the communities urging President Biden to protect the land as a National Monument. After President Biden announced his intention to officially designate Avi Kwa Ame as a National Monument during the White House Tribal Summit in November, we knew we couldn’t let up until he followed through. Supporters like you sent over 33,000 messages directly to the White House in the following months, and Avi Kwa Ame was officially designated as a National Monument by President Biden in March. The declaration is the result of years-long advocacy campaigns led by Tribes, frontline and conservation groups working with the Honor Avi Kwa Ame coalition.
