Another Monday, which means it’s back to the grind for many of us. But do you know who is always busy working without any weekends off? BEAVERS! Imagine that you’re a beaver, diligent and meticulous by nature. You take your duties seriously because you’re responsible for gathering mud, logs, and rocks down to the water where you will carefully construct your masterpiece: a dam that will serve as a “beaver lodge,” a home and shelter to keep you and your family safe from predators, which you’re happy to share with other wetland wildlife. Although your species has adapted these engineering skills for your own survival, this dam will have far-reaching impacts -- because these amazing structures actually help protect the entire planet by playing a crucial role in combating the harms of climate change! As you’re lugging wood pieces on your normal route, you suddenly hear an unfamiliar bang followed by a loud crash. Has a tree fallen? You place down your heavy load and go to investigate -- only to find a fellow beaver on the ground, fur covered in blood and flinching. Before you can react, you are bombarded by a group of men with large metal objects pointed right at you… then, *BOOM*. Something strikes your chest, excruciating pain rushes over you, and everything goes dark. You take your last breath through your little buck-teeth and can’t help but wonder: who will finish building the dam? Friend, innocent beavers are being VIOLENTLY SLAUGHTERED like this right now, with TENS OF THOUSANDS being trapped, snared, and shot dead every year for their meat and fur. And if cruel hunters continue massacring these precious animals, we could lose not only a beloved mammal but also a key solution to climate change. [Please, Friend, these furry animals are counting on you to be their voice today. Will you help SAVE climate-solving beavers from being BRUTALLY HUNTED on public lands?]( [SIGN THE PETITION]( Greenhouse gases, droughts, flooding, wildfires, and habitat destruction -- all devastating consequences of human-driven climate change. But beavers help mitigate ALL of these environmental threats by providing vital services to our planet -- like carbon drawdown, water storage, natural firebreaks, and wildlife shelter. THOUSANDS of species, including many endangered, depend on beavers to keep our wetlands healthy. Beaver dams and ponds slow down water flow, keeping it on land longer and making it available to both animals and people and even acting as a natural filtration system that improves the water quality itself. Scientists have known for years that this keystone species plays a critical role in fighting climate change. But the federal government has FAILED to protect these ecosystem engineers from merciless hunters out to profit off of the dead carcasses of these climate-saving superheroes. So now, Friend, it’s up to environmentalists like YOU to defend these helpless critters before it’s too late. We urgently need 4,502 more signatures by 11:59 P.M. TONIGHT.
