For many who fondly remember the 90’s animated classic version, the ads for the new film transport viewers to an enchanted, sparkling underwater setting that brings magical childhood dreams to life on the big screen. However, one thing you won’t see advertised on Disney’s billboards is the story of Lighthouse Point. Once nestled among the crystalline, turquoise waters of Eleuthera Island in The Bahamas, Lighthouse Point was abundant with brightly colored marine life living harmoniously across ancient limestone coral reefs. It doesn’t require too much imagination to see that Disney has drawn much of its inspiration from the natural wonders of our real-life oceans. But unlike fantasy and fiction, Lighthouse Point didn’t have a fairy tale ending. Instead, Disney itself became the villain by RECKLESSLY BUILDING OVER this aquatic habitat with the construction of a $250 MILLION cruise ship pier!
