The Southern Resident Orca population is at its lowest point in decades, and these magnificent creatures are on the BRINK OF EXTINCTION. These orcas are the only endangered species of killer whales in the United States, and they are starving and growing weaker by the day. [Help protect these 74 remaining orcas by standing up to corporate greed: Make your contribution of $27 or more today.]( Southern Resident Killer Whale populations have been declining since 2006. Key drivers to their extinction are tied to chemical pollution and food availability. Their main food source is Chinook Salmon, which were once abundant in their ecosystems, but have substantially declined in the last decade -- leading these orcas to starvation, stress, and miscarriages. Now, two proposed megaprojects would drastically magnify these threats to orcas: a new shipping terminal and oil pipeline threaten -- and just one oil spill could completely wipe them out. Big Oil and the shipping industry are starving orcas to death. Help us fight for their protection and make your $27 donation. Each death in these pods reduces the chances that the remaining orcas survive. With Marina’s death, her children are now THREE TIMES more likely to die, while her grandchildren are SIX TIMES less likely to survive. With these 74 precious lives at stake and at increased risk, we need to step up our fight to protect them.
