Thanks to the Trump administration’s premature removal of this iconic species from ESA protections, hunters can legally lure Yellowstone wolves out of the park to hunt and KILL them. [Protect the remaining wolves: Donate $27 or more to Friends of the Earth to fight for wolves and our planet.]( This is the most wolves killed in a single season since they were reintroduced to the park in 1994. Their deadly mistake? Roaming outside of park borders, where hunters in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming were eagerly waiting with choking snares, leghold traps, and bait. These creatures did not stand a chance against these cruel hunting practices. Wolves were previously hunted to near-extinction levels, and by 1926, Yellowstone was completely depleted of them. The reintroduction and protection of wolves two decades ago has allowed them to thrive -- but since the stripping of their ESA protections, the widespread wolf hunts are threatening to quickly decimate their numbers in Yellowstone and across the country before the season is over. Wolves are not out of the woods yet -- trapping season is not over. Stand up for wolves and our planet with your $27 contribution before it’s too late. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Donate $27 immediately]( [Donate $5/month immediately]( Entire wolf packs are being eliminated across the country: The Phantom Lake pack of Yellowstone was killed in the span of just two months, the Catherine pack of Oregon was poisoned to death by poachers, and there is just one lone wolf left in northwest Colorado, struggling to survive. We need to protect these canines while we still can. Yet, states across the country are treating wolves like a disposable species. Wisconsin hunters blew past quotas last year and killed 20 percent of the state’s wolves during breeding season -- and they have yet to fully understand the impacts of this on the entire population. South Dakota and Utah refuse to allow wolves to establish packs within their borders -- South Dakota even lists them as “varmint.” With only 6,000 wolves left in the lower 48 states, we can’t allow this slaughter to continue. The entire species is at risk if we don’t stand up to protect the remaining wolves from trophy hunters and their gruesome hunting practices. When hunters are permitted to kill wolf pups in their dens and run them over with snowmobiles or ATVs, it becomes clear that this is an urgent problem. The handouts to trophy hunters are being prioritized over the survival of an entire species. We must act before wolves suffer preventable extinction. Wolves are subjected to BRUTAL hunting practices. Help fight for the protection of wolves and our ecosystems with your contribution of $27 or more today! Wolves help keep elk and deer populations in check, allowing other plant and animal species to flourish. The remains of their kill redistribute nutrients and feed scavengers. They play a vital role in our wild spaces, yet are being hunted mercilessly toward extinction. Wolves represent the iconic American wilderness. Once roaming freely across America, these canines have become functionally extinct in 85% of their former range across the continental U.S. States and trophy hunters have declared open season on wolves, and we could see even more devastating losses to the wolf population across the country before trapping season is over. If we don’t fight for their protection, wolves could be driven towards extinction within our lifetime. Your membership gift of $27 or more to Friends of the Earth can help us fight for the protection of wolves and our planet -- but we don’t have time to lose. Make your contribution today while we can still make a difference! Wolves are being hunted towards extinction -- with pups killed in their dens and others being run over by ATVs and snowmobiles.
