Dear Friend, Demand the Biden administration uphold and strengthen the “Magna Carta of Environmental Law!” [Sign Now]( In 2020, the Trump administration rolled back the “Magna Carta of Environmental Law,” silencing community input on polluting projects like pipelines. Now, nearly 2 years later, the National Environmental Policy Act is still left weakened and ineffective. [Take action now.]( The National Environmental Policy Act is a bedrock environmental protection law that requires the federal government to request public input into polluting projects, seek less harmful alternatives, and minimize the impact on our communities and the environment. Trump’s attacks on NEPA prioritized fossil fuel industry profits over the welfare of people, animals, and the planet. Now, it’s up to you to demand NEPA be restored and strengthened to help protect our planet from irreversible damage. Tell the Biden administration to strengthen the “Magna Carta of Environmental law!” [Sign Now]( Historically, NEPA protections have helped stop poorly thought-out, polluting projects across the country -- from drilling in vulnerable wildlife habitats to constructing industrial facilities that poison our communities. It stopped Big Polluters from destroying our national parks, public lands, and cultural landmarks. When Trump gutted NEPA, he stripped the ability of the communities most impacted by polluting projects to make their voices heard, making them unable to stop pollution in their own backyards. Fossil fuel corporations can now speed up pollution as they see fit -- ignoring additional harms to Black and Brown people already facing disproportionate exposure to toxic pollution, and exacerbating risks to children in impacted communities with higher rates of asthma, low birthweight, and neurodevelopmental disorders. If the Biden administration doesn’t act, these environmental injustices will only get worse. Demand the Biden administration strengthen our bedrock environmental laws! [Sign Now]( Trump’s attacks on NEPA stripped requirements to disclose conflicts of interest, consider the full range of environmental impacts, or offer alternative approaches. It gave Big Polluters a free pass to pollute the planet with poorly thought-out, destructive projects. And it made iconic lands like Malheur National Forest in Oregon and the Nantahala and Pisgah National forests in North Carolina vulnerable to Big Oil’s attacks. The Biden administration must act fast to reverse Trump’s rollback and strengthen NEPA. Climate change has already been declared a “code red for humanity.” We must strengthen our bedrock environmental protections now -- before it’s too late. Take action to stop Big Polluters from destroying the planet!
