It’s MANIPULATED science and UNDERMINED regulations designed to keep you, me, and pollinators safe – all so it can continue to rake in profits at our expense. And its friends in Congress want to let it off the hook. As you read this Friend, a recent draft of the Farm Bill in Congress incorporates language that would override state and local laws that protect people and the planet from the dangers of pesticides. It would also shield Big Pesticide corporations like Bayer-Monsanto from being held accountable for their harmful products. Bayer-Monsanto’s infamous weedkiller, Roundup, is used on millions of acres of farmland across the country, but many are unaware of its DANGER. There’s an active ingredient in Roundup’s formula called glyphosate. This harmful chemical is dangerous to both people and pollinators, including our beautiful monarch butterflies. Glyphosate has been linked to serious health concerns, including cancer, hormone disruption, and kidney toxicity.  We know that you will not stand for corporate greed and deception. Milkweed is the ONLY source of food for baby monarch caterpillars, and it’s also the only place where monarchs lay eggs. Without this essential plant, there would be no more baby monarchs! But glyphosate is DECIMATING milkweed plants at devastating rates, a key factor in massive drops in monarch butterfly populations. We’ve lost 850 MILLION milkweed plants in the U.S. Midwest in the past 20 years. Meanwhile, the North American monarch butterfly population has dropped 90%. Bayer-Monsanto has spent MILLIONS of dollars to keep the public from knowing that Roundup is unsafe. And Big Pesticide corporations will spend more in order to keep toxic pesticides stocked on shelves.
