Deadline for responses: 11:59 p.m. This is devastating: Sumatran tigers are critically endangered – with only 600 individuals left in the entire world! Sumatran tigers are the last remaining species of tiger in Indonesia after their cousins, the Bali and Javan tigers, were pushed to extinction in the 1900s. They are facing rainforest habitat loss, starvation and even DEATH. As their habitat is destroyed, these majestic animals have to walk farther and farther in search of food, sometimes being forced to walk up to 18 miles to find even one meal. And sadly, this is all happening because greedy corporations will do anything to turn a nickel into a dime. Palm oil companies are responsible for destroying some of the world’s most biodiverse forests that people and endangered wildlife rely on for survival. In fact, one study found that the expansion of palm oil plantations was the PRIMARY driver behind a nearly 20% LOSS in Sumatran tiger habitat between 2000 and 2012. Indigenous farmers are standing up to protect the forests, precious wildlife and their land rights. But they’re being wrongly IMPRISONED for their activism, just so corporations and their suppliers can slash through vital rainforests and replace them with palm oil fields. The unfortunate truth is that palm oil is one of the world's most widely used vegetable oils – it's a common ingredient in countless products, from laundry detergent and soap to pizza and cereal. That's why reckless corporations are stopping at NOTHING to extract more and more. We can’t let these companies destroy the habitats Sumatran tigers, people, and ecosystems need to survive.
